RIP Jack Ryan, John Clark and Domingo Chavez!

I loved Red Storm Rising when I first read it.

Cardinal of the Kremlin made me start reading more about the Soviet side of WW2.

I liked a lot of his pre 200's work.

RIP Tom Clancy

"Without Remorse" was my favorite Clancy novel. I stopped reading his novels around that time. His writing about Special Ops was comical. He should have stuck with writing about the Navy,

What did he die of? Sixty-six years of age is kind of young to die from a quick illness.
Arms are the only true badge of liberty. The possession of arms is the distinction of the free man from the slave.

I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery.

Mine, too. I was actually happy to hear he had a recently co-authored book that included Clark.

Especially when you have a few hundred mil empire of books, films, and video games.

He was a fat ass for years so it's not a big surprise. He had an "illness" and died at John Hopkins.

"Without Remorse" was his best story (I don;t get why that was no made into a film but I;d be pissed if they did to it what they did to "Sum of all Fears"), Red Storm Rising was his best Military book (He called the purpose and potential mission for the Stealth "fighter" attack aircraft before it's declassification.) and his best espionage book was Cardinal of the Kremlin.

He had jumped a lot of sharks since then, but "Rainbow Six" was a fun read, like an old G.I. Joe comic.

FYI, he was good writer.

He also lived near where I grew up. He came to some of the restaurants I worked in.

Pathologically abusive asshole motherfucker.

But I'm sorry for his family if they miss him.

He wrote big fat flabby books. Reading one, Christopher Buckley once said, is like watching Rush Limbaugh run a marathon.

I confess, I never read one. so, probably shouldn't have called him a good writer. Good screenwriters interpreted his books for film.

Yes, stories from around the Metro area and the Annapolis area are full of "Tom Clancy is an asshole stories."

When I went to high school in Va. in 89-90, one of my friend's family where family friends of Clancy.

He talked of using his indoor pistol range and his kick ass library but he even said that he could snap and be a raging asshole or he'd get a real stuck up attitude. As he was one of my favourite authors at the time I asked if he could get one of my books signed. He said that would be a bad idea and told of how he was at Clancy's when a relative requested just that and it was a big ass hole show."

Gee we are talking about a dead man, but how you act carries on long after you are gone.

Envy is a terrible thing to witness.

I know it must piss you off that a untrained insurance salesman made millions at your profession, but show some class.

There's a large community of town homes right on the water near the Inner Harbor developed by Ritz Carlton. Pretty pricey and he owned several of them. The neighbors were all up in arms a few years ago because he wanted to gut one of them to put in a gun range.
