Why? It's not hard to remove whatever file protections you have and move everything over to your phone. Then you have one less device to deal with.
Mick, if you haven't personally been annoyed by whatever is bothering Baffled, why would you consider switching from Android to a different OS?

It's great. Get the Swift Keyboard. Much faster than the Samsung one and way better at autocorrect. I'm not sold on the S-voice. Perfer google voice. Press the mic and say, "what the Green Bay Packer score?" Google (in a female voice) comes back and says, "The Packers lead the Lions 21 to 9." Synchs perfectly with my google calendar. Tasks are separate but G-Tasks works really well. I have an ipod and with an emulation google calender and task list. They all synch to the S4 and my MacBook.
I didn't think I was very geeky, but I spend a lot of time working on the S4. Found a great grocery shopping app called ziplist. Find a recipe on the net on the mac, click a button to copy then click list and the ingredients are on a list (which synchs to the S4)and is easy to use in the store because it's organized by ailes: produce, dairy, baking goods etc.
I'm very happy with the thing. Also, I go to Africa next week. Verizon has some sort of global roaming plan. You can apparently buy it by the month, which is about how long I'll be gone. I will report back on that.
All this is true. One thing, though, about the S4 is that once you get used to the size of the screen nothing else will do. My wife has an iPhone (which is still a real good phone) but the screen seems miniscule now.

I switched back from an HTC One to a iPhone 5S. Small annoyances (copy/pasting was different in every app, etc.) and the screen not being as accurate I was used to in iOS were getting to me and it turns out that the bigger screen was only useful for playing games.
Apple still does the user experience thing better than its competitors. Freshly-installed Windows and Android running the pure Google version are almost as good as OS X and iOS, but 95% of what you can buy retail (of both Windows and Android) is weighed down with someone's bloatware.

Not a phone, but my Nexus 10 is excellent.

I have been getting a lot of force closures of different apps and the picture thing which Shaf touched on being a plus with the iPhone. I like the ease of navigation between different screens when I used my friend's but I haven't used the Galaxy S4 so I can't really compare that.

I would prefer that my phone take a massive shit like my iPhone did instead of the smaller turds that my Android leaves. Little things start to add up over time, and I am none-too-happy with how many little quirks my S3 has.
What about an an older iPhone like a 4s?
If they're still being sold, then sure.
The one thing I would say is that the 4s is supposed to be noticeably slower than the 5s, and somewhat slower than the 5c.
Either way, I'd also echo what milo said. Apple does the user experience better than anyone else. And you're more likely to have the phone take a shit all at once instead of just glitch out like an Android will.
There are still a ton of things that my Galaxy S3 does much better for my work, but I am starting to think I'd take less efficiency in favor of a phone that worked better on a more consistent basis.
And... when it takes a shit, it'll probably do it all at once.

Never thought of that before but it's very, very true of most Apple products across the board.
Yeah, it's a positive for me, but I could see how it might be a little traumatic for other people when their seemingly perfect working iPhone, iPad or whatever suddenly dies.
I prefer that over the slow death I seem to be experiencing on my Android powered device at the moment.

If it does die all at once will you be able to get pictures, video, data, etc. off of it? Or is it best to keep everything backed up. I still have pictures on my old Incredible that the dumbasses at the Verizon store couldn't transfer. I still need to get those off.

This is very true for me. For what I do, the S4 does a very good job. It is also possible to get it without the bloatware direct from the Google Play store.
It also has a built in IR and remote control app. Very handy at restaurants and bars when you need to change the channel.
had the 4s for over two years and got the Samsung S4 because I was not impressed with the 5 and the 5s. For a major upgrade, those two phones are lacking IMO. Sure they are reliable out of the box, but for the price I expect something better.
Plus its a phone, what the hell does do you really need 64 bits for.
After having the S4 for over a month, I rooted it, rid the bloatware, customized it and will be changing my phone entirely using the cyanogen mod shortly.
Even with jailbreaking my iphone I don't have this kind of control over it.
Dragging and dropping music is easy with the Droid, as are pics. With the iphone I am stuck using itunes or paying for third party software to transfer music; even with jailbreak.
Add the swype keyboard which I love, the widgets that make a lot of shit easier on the phone, apps lilke Greenify and Titanium backup to the mix and Apple will have to really do something special with the 6 to make me even consider switching back again.

I don't really know what you just said but it sounds like the S4 is pretty sweet. I'll definitely be taking a look at both.
That's one thing I haven't mentioned is music. I don't have an ipod and it would be nice to have a phone that I could store music on and listen to along with the nice picture and video quality.

I'm not sure you could buy a smartphone these days that can't handle music.

I would be shocked if Mickey's current smartphone can't handle music. Even my old Blackberry Torch played music well enough that I abandoned my iPod. My S3 is even better.

International calling on Samsung S4/Verizon:
It can access cdma and gsm and something else (umts or something)
Opt for $0.00 to open your phone up globally. Pay as you go if you call internationally. Voice and sms only. Pay as you go is very expensive.
$4.99 for less expensive voice calls.
$25 for global plan with 100mb of data. $0.05 for received text messages. $0.50 for sent texts. The same less expensive calls.
$29.95 for more data and a more calls.
I got the $25 plan.
We'll see how it works. I'll report back in November when I get home again.
(Yeah, I know, you can buy a local phone and sim card with text and message for about $30. That's what I usually do. But it's different # and there's no data.)
Well, it seems I don't get as much off on the Galaxy S4 or S3 or the iPhone 5 as I would like with my upgrade so I am thinking my best option is the iPhone 4s. Actually, I would like to post my options and get the advice of anyone who would like to offer. I'll get a link to the page and post it in a short while.
Btw, I can get the iPhone 4s for $0.99 with my plan.
