President Obama Lied To ME! ??
He said I could keep my health insurance policy if I liked it - "PERIOD". My insurance agent said that next year small policies like I have in NY are all getting switched over to the Obama Health Exchanges.
Obama said companies that switch you like that are "bad apples" Right now I'm with Aetna and can go to just about any doctor I want for a fair co-pay. In fact I've never had a single problem with them. I didn't think that they were bad apples but Obama says they are and he went to Harvard.
Is Aetna a "bad apple" or did President Obama lie to me?

Awww stop it. He's a nice psychopafhtic motherfucker.
Obama's narcissism and arrogance is only superseded by his naivete and stupidity.
Re: President Obama Lied To ME! ??
The policy you were perfectly happy with was simply "substandard" because it didn't charge you for a bunch of shitty you didn't want, or can't use.

Re: President Obama Lied To ME! ??
Apparently he lied to this woman as well
Maybe she's being killed for the greater good. Kind of a drone strike on the cancer stricken.Everyone now is clamoring about Affordable Care Act winners and losers. I am one of the losers.
My grievance is not political; all my energies are directed to enjoying life and staying alive, and I have no time for politics. For almost seven years I have fought and survived stage-4 gallbladder cancer, with a five-year survival rate of less than 2% after diagnosis. I am a determined fighter and extremely lucky. But this luck may have just run out: My affordable, lifesaving medical insurance policy has been canceled effective Dec. 31.
My choice is to get coverage through the government health exchange and lose access to my cancer doctors, or pay much more for insurance outside the exchange (the quotes average 40% to 50% more) for the privilege of starting over with an unfamiliar insurance company and impaired benefits.
Countless hours searching for non-exchange plans have uncovered nothing that compares well with my existing coverage. But the greatest source of frustration is Covered California, the state's Affordable Care Act health-insurance exchange and, by some reports, one of the best such exchanges in the country. After four weeks of researching plans on the website, talking directly to government exchange counselors, insurance companies and medical providers, my insurance broker and I are as confused as ever. Time is running out and we still don't have a clue how to best proceed...
...Before the Affordable Care Act, health-insurance policies could not be sold across state lines; now policies sold on the Affordable Care Act exchanges may not be offered across county lines.
What happened to the president's promise, "You can keep your health plan"? Or to the promise that "You can keep your doctor"? Thanks to the law, I have been forced to give up a world-class health plan. The exchange would force me to give up a world-class physician.
For a cancer patient, medical coverage is a matter of life and death. Take away people's ability to control their medical-coverage choices and they may die. I guess that's a highly effective way to control medical costs. Perhaps that's the point.

Obama doesn't seem to learn that speaking in absolutes is good for a candidate but not so good for a politician in office.
I know a few people who work for the Democratic Party in some capacity and/or are big political backers of Obama and have never seen them try to spin something so hard as they are trying to spin this debacle.

That's the problem. It's all politics all the time with the Obama administration. Everything is spin, messaging, short-term gain. There is no coherent policy. Governing is low on the priority list.Terry B. wrote:Obama doesn't seem to learn that speaking in absolutes is good for a candidate but not so good for a politician in office.
Another problem is, Obama really does seem to have surrounded himself with novices: smart people with little experience actually DOING things.
It's like if the U.S. were governed by a college professor with no experience running or managing anything bigger than a law review.

Fairly sure this:
Likewise, what actually happened in the above is that Aetna decided to shut down part of their business. Obama didn't force them to do so and no one's pretending they aren't going to remain massively profitable under Obamacare.
Sure, Obamacare isn't going to work, but that's because we can't act like every other civilized place on Earth and institute a national, single-payer healthcare program.
is flat wrong. Before the Affordable Care Act, health-insurance policies could not be sold across state lines; now policies sold on the Affordable Care Act exchanges may not be offered across county lines.

I'm unconcerned about Aetna's future. I am concerned that when I get kicked off my policy next year that I can go to the doctors I want to and not get much less coverage for a much higher price like millions of other Americans. I'm justly nervous about this.milosz wrote:Fairly sure this:is flat wrong. Before the Affordable Care Act, health-insurance policies could not be sold across state lines; now policies sold on the Affordable Care Act exchanges may not be offered across county lines.

And, that woman with the cancer who's story I posted is fucked. She may or may not have all of her facts correct (who could in this debacle) but you don't have to be an insurance expert to know when you're fucked.
Like she said in the WSJ article, there are Obmacare winners and losers. She's a loser. Maybe we can send flowers.

Health insurance companies are not 'massively profitable'-- their margins are thin. Actually thinner now because they can't keep as many funds in reserve. And Doc is basically right-- the reason insurance companies compete less across county and state lines is because of the ACA.milosz wrote:Fairly sure this:is flat wrong. Before the Affordable Care Act, health-insurance policies could not be sold across state lines; now policies sold on the Affordable Care Act exchanges may not be offered across county lines.

He said that you could keep it but he didn't say for how long.
Don't you people know how to read between the lines or does a Senator need to spell things out for you?

Interviewer: The president said in the beginning that one thing was that if you liked the health care program you had, you could keep it. We now know there was debate within the administration before he said that as to whether that was actually a promise that could be kept. Should the president not have made that statement?
Feinstein: Well, as I understand it, you can keep it up to the time — and I hope this is correct, but this is what I’ve been told — up to the time the bill was enacted, and after that, it’s a different story. That part of it, if true, was never made clear.

It's the fault of those who didn't hope for change enough, that is clearly.

The ACA has, I'm sure, enough pork and non health care related bullshit in it to keep all of their contributors happy.
The loopholes need to be plugged and term limits put in place for every elected official. The current crop of congressmen and senators need to be flushed out, and the huge number of criminals in the legislature need to be brought under the rule of law

Making promises about things you don't control is always stupid. That's like if he said you'd always be able to buy a twinkie.DrDonkeyLove wrote:He said I could keep my health insurance policy if I liked it.
I'll say that Medicare has done right by my recently passed away Aunt and my currently very sick MIL (who has Tricare backstop).
A key for insurance companies is to get young, healthy people to join up. This will have to involve sexy women, violence, and drugs in some way, so look for insurance companies to start sponsoring MMA fighters and placing ads on porn sites. They can offer free VD checks and stuff.
Don’t believe everything you think.

Health & fitness go together like those two lesbians in the first picture. OK, I know they're not lesbians, except in my dreams. But crossfit coupled with an insurance plan with a high deductible is like printing money.

Aetna's profit in 2012 was over a billion dollars, I believe.
This is almost as rich as when you crowed about Switzerland cutting taxes... to a top marginal rate 66% higher than ours. Most 'civilized places' are moving away from that model in some form or another.

Re Aetna-- each division is separate, for good reason. It's the law. And re their health insurance business, they probably won't take losses for long before getting out of it. And your understanding of European health insurance is laughable.milosz wrote:Nigga please. Medicare is great. It also illustrates the absurdity of thinking that a single-payer system would lower healthcare costs in the U.S.nafod wrote:I'll say that Medicare has done right by my recently passed away Aunt and my currently very sick MIL (who has Tricare backstop).
