Hey Timmah...

Post by Shapecharge »

Get your sorry ass in the Homeland thread in the Books, Movies forum and answer a few writing questions I have in there.

Also, back in the day when you were writing with Rolling Stone did you get a chance to get to know Stephen Stills? He was on Howard Stern a few weeks ago and he seemed like a great guy from that era. I've always thought he was a bit underappreciated by the general public relative to his writing, singing, and guitar playing skills.

And for some reason Ben Fong Torres was on the radio here. Was he as dickish as he comes across in interviews?

Ben's a great guy and good pal. His approach to interviews is different than mine. He prepares, he knows what he's going to say, and he's been an FM DJ since '68. On TV and radio, he does his radio voice. Might make him sound dickish.

Me, I just get an idea of what the interview is supposed to be about and wing it. If I know I'm going to have an adversarial interview, I have a few zingers packed away along with a statement that will elicit a predictable response that I can demolish. Otherwise, I just tell stories.

I've met Stephen Stills several times working CSN&Y. One of my old buddies.. Bob Ingram was a songwriter, singer, etc.. with them. He eventually became a stagehand-grip. Stephen is very cool, mellow and his guitar skills shocked me. He's so talented. Crosby, Stills and Nash was a favorite gig. I think I worked them 3 or 4 times over the years.. Kind of like family coming back to Miami.

I've seen CSN in the last couple of years. They still have it.

Didn't know any of them personally. Did a phone interview John Cipollina once. I don't recall much about it except some nutcase murdered someone and claimed he worked for Quicksilver as a manager. Turns out he did not. A killer and a fibber.
