Drank a bunch of these today. They go down easy. I am drunk and came home with 9 hofbrau steins in a plastic grocery bag.

My wife got me a couple bottles for my birthday. Drank one and put the other on my shelf.

Best imperial stout. Ever.

This one has really grown on me. I used to think it was a little too bitter, but now I find it to be the perfect grape-fruity IPA.

Not bad, and they have it at my local grocery store.

It's got a nice roasty-ness and it's smooth and rich w/o being syrupy. I'm not sure how to describe it but it finishes like an ESB almost. Not that sugary, alcoholic taste you'd expect from an imperial stout that can sometimes happen when these new wave beers are overdone. Maybe a little hoppy even, not green flash hoppy but like old speckled hen hoppy. I don't really drink a lot of porters (this was bought for the wife). It was good though. definitely purchase worthy.Master_Blaster wrote:Fuzzy Dunlop wrote:pretty good

Green Flash is better. DD is really good, but it tastes more like a double or imperial IPA than a West Coast IPA. I prefer West Coast IPA's, and although I initially thought Green Flash was too bitter, it's really grown on me and I now consider it to be grapefruit heaven.Fuzzy Dunlop wrote:David how'd you like the Deviant Dale's vs. Green Flash?
Added bonus is that Green Flash is cheaper than DD.

When I lived in Boston and was on an IPA kick there was nothing that could top Green Flash which was an infrequent find. I really liked the Deviant too though. There is too much to love in Oscar Blues... The Ten Fidy is supreme (thx for turning me on to that one), and Deviant is very good, not 90 minute, but excellent nonetheless.davidc wrote:Green Flash is better. If you're chasing that west coast grapefruit-hoppiness I think green flash is the best around. At least for beers that are distributed widely. If you find something better, let me know. Racer 5 comes close and Lagunitas has some great brews but I really don't think anything can compete w/ green flash (admittedly never had a Heady). I have had a pliny out west and it was great but more of a balanced DIPA than a pure west-coast citrus hop bomb.

The ratings for hopslam are really high. I'll have to try some.Shafpocalypse Now wrote:I've tried a fuck ton of hoppy west coast style IPAs...the best, hands down. double IPA i've ever had was Hopslam from Bells in Michigan, it's seasonal bliss. It beats the shit out of Stone's offerings and the Dogfish Head's best effort.

I checked this too (#17 on beeradvocate) there are only 3 IPAs above it - the two Pliny iterations and Heady. Off the IPAs but I will definitely have to grab one of these if I ever see it.davidc wrote:The ratings for hopslam are really high. Had a 32 oz growler of this tonight. It was really, really good. I think I prefer Ten Fidy, but honestly, I can find no fault with this beer. There's a reason for all the world-class ratings.
