Almost everything about that video demonstrates the fucked up culture of in the Black community and college sports.
I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery.

LOL, do you actually believe those programs are going to educate them in anything other than football?Jezzy Bell wrote:"it is what it is" -- jesus. Lady, you have not one, but two kids getting full rides. How about "Hell fuck yeah, free education!"

Who knows. Maybe Alabama has a degree program in Astrophysics and he'll be spending all his time off the field in the lab, and studying...?
Yeah. And I'm a Chinese jet pilot.

Kids like that need and deserve a farm system that they could play in and get paid.Terry B. wrote:That was a year ago.baffled wrote:

College sports is a farm system that simultaneously allows athletes the opportunity to better their lives outside of sports though I do believe that a stipend system of some kind is coming in the next several years.nafod wrote:Kids like that need and deserve a farm system that they could play in and get paid.Terry B. wrote:That was a year ago.baffled wrote:

Perhaps their mother will share a bit of the cash she got from LSU.

“In some instances, at Florida State University, for example, black men comprise nearly 70 percent of the football team, yet just over one-third of those black male student-athletes will graduate,”

The numbers are on par for graduation rates of black males in the US overall.nafod wrote:Sad...

Graduation rates for college athletes are far higher than the general public believes. Football and women's bowling are outliers though in the former, a clear difference does exist between white and black players.

We have a national merit scholar down the street and vans have been blocking traffic for the last several days because he's going to announce between Stanford and the local state school in the morning.milosz wrote:Instead of making fun of the mother and two talented kids, can we focus our derision on the world's largest sports network interviewing 18-year olds about where they're going to college?

Re: Try not to smile so much, Mom
My sister and her husband both have Master's Degrees in Biology, from Virginia Tech. They also have some other fancy degrees, too. They been in school for a loooong, looooooong time, and though they worked hard, and made good grades as took advantage of every grant and scholarship available that they could, they still had to get student loans, and they're both up to their eyeballs in debt because of it.
And here's the kicker-
They both work together, as "Cell Biologists." That's their job. And I'm a college drop-out with no degree, I work in IT, and I make more money per year than they do combined.
Ball players get a free ride. Some -not all, not the majority but some- turn pro and make shit loads of money.
Jackasses like me get a pass because we work hard and live lean, fine.
But smart kids who think a degree from a big University still means something, work hard, do what they can with scholarships and grants, and still have to get student loans, try to start a meaningful career where they can do good scientific work, and get paid jack shit and have to stress about student loan debt.
Scientists should earn what pro ball players do. And nobody should get a free ride because they can play sports.

I didn't intend to make my post about blacks, I was googling on FSU and graduation rate.Terry B. wrote:The numbers are on par for graduation rates of black males in the US overall.nafod wrote:Sad...

I think a school should expect a higher grad rate from athletes than from the rest of population, particularly in revenue sports. To do less is to fail the students.

Which is why they have dedicated tutors, and classes for athletes that other students mysteriously can't get into.nafod wrote:I didn't intend to make my post about blacks, I was googling on FSU and graduation rate.Terry B. wrote:The numbers are on par for graduation rates of black males in the US overall.nafod wrote:Sad...
