Big budget biopic of Jackie Robinson from his end of his time in the Negro Leagues through his first year with Brooklyn.
The storywriting was choppy, especially about the surrounding characters and events. Very few of the other players stood out of the crowd, even though many of them were larger than life characters. It touches on the issues other players had with Robinson, and other issues going on at the time, but too often doesn't put them in context. Downplays how much Rickey had to go through to make integration happen. Tudyk, Meloni, and Ford were great. Not mentioning Larry Doby, even as an aside, was a serious omission.
Considering the great real life story, it should have been better. Written more like a low budget Disney sports movie than Field of Dreams. Disappointing.
