This isn't much of a sport anymore. It's a commercial.
One of the reasons I hardly watch it anymore. Constant commercials and plays only last, what, seven seconds? Usually if I watch a sport on tv it is soccer. Not much scoring but constant movement.

Plus the fact that they don't allow many real fans attend the superbowl.

Largely true of most pro sports these days. It's almost impossible to get tickets at Madison Square Garden for the Knicks and Rangers, and while baseball tickets are easier to come by, who can afford all the add ons?
Every year I care a little less about football, and that's the last of the big four that I care about at all.

As for the game, I predict it will be cold enough to keep them from coming back here for a long time.

Sherman-- solid citizen who's not a dumbass (as evidenced by his nonexistent criminal record). Talks shit, backs it up.

Anyone who doesn't respect the hell out of him is either a) not a real football fan b) still wears pajamas/long johns with feet in them.

Sherman is everything a corner should be.

And Harbaugh was his coach in college-- he deserves what he got for testing him with Crabtree.

I had to google that, and still don't get it. #-o

Sherman is an example of what makes the NFL look like the WWF. Not my thing.

They can't all be like Barry Sanders. Sportsmanship is to much to ask, these days.

You might think that. You'd be wrong.

Sherman is a genuine guy cut form a totally different cloth. The guy is a shit talker in the Ali sense of the word but he is also a good hearted guy who actually listens to what people say about him before he peels their fragile psyche like an onion.

It shocks me how few of you chaps are willing to understand qualitative distinctions based on context. Lots of on/off switch thinking. We just had a month long hand wringing thread over "racism" and yet here you are with the more insidious soft sell version. Weaver gets a pass? Pfffft...in the parlance of our times, Nigger, please

I have nothing at all against Richard Sherman. I haven't followed much football the last couple of years, and only heard of him on Monday.
He seems like a fine human being and an excellent ball player.
I do however, get tired of the shit talking and braggadocio that permeates the culture of sport. I like a guy like Barry, who said his father told him that when he scored, he should act like he'd been there before and knew he would do it again.
Maybe sports would be boring if everyone behaved that way.
Maybe I'm a hypocrite, too. I could get loud sometimes when I played lacrosse, and didn't always keep it clean, either.
I have a preference, though.
Is some of the reaction to Sherman of the "uppity nigger" variety. Probably.
And although a New York Super Bowl is putting money directly into my pocket, I still don't think they should be playing here.
But I hope it snows, it will sure make for a memorable game.

My first guess was Sherman was still in Game Mode shit talking when Erin Andrews stuck the mike in his face.

But now that I know a little more about him, he may be the greatest self-promoting Seahawk since Brian "The Boz" Bosworth. But with serious talent. He will go far, on & off the field.

I hear that.
The way I coach my own kids places probably more emphasis on this than is necessary...BUT..

Watching noted shit talkers like Sherman and Sonnon has made me question some of my assumptions. It's almost like drugs in sports. We all know it's there, we may feel strongly one way or the other but beyond the veil that separates those who watch from those who do, there's a whole other game going on in the game.

Jeezus there are a bunch of sensitive faggots on here. He's probably going to be dead before he's fucking 50 from suicide or some other side effect of his traumatic brain injury. If he wants to talk shit after running head long into another man at 35 mph then he has that right. Sportsmanship is a great thing for kids and fucking losers who don't care about winning.
