I was driving by there right when it was happening. Listened to the news on the radio for a bit, then turned it off. Not even news any more.

Glad your mom's OK.

Fucking bring out the clowns time. just what the hell does he need with all that shit? Your tax dollars at work; so wantabee fags can play soldier.

I'll go on record that most SWAT officers are Delta DEVGRU Spec ops wantabee that never had the stones to do the real thing in the military.
What's he got that is extraneous?
Not sure if you're being serious, but what the hay, let's jump into it.

Let's start with the neck spall guard, groin protector, shoulder and upper arm protection. Not to mention; what the hell is in the thigh bag? And it looks like he has more shit attached to the back of his body armor.

Good job officer dork, you've made yourself a slow target. He needs to ditch half of that gear. More tactical shit doesn't make you tactical or a spec ops badass.

Tnx guys..

I'm pretty sure she was serious about the sprints. She is doing pretty damn good for a 70 year old. Bikram 4 days a week, deads and pressing along with other TRX shit in the gym with a trainer 3 days a week and has some weird ass belly dancing dance class she does 3-4 days as well.

Glad she's OK and love her attitude.

Concealed carry is damn near impossible to get in MD. I forget the term, but it's law here to try and flee during a burglary rather than confront.

Yes, HowCo is as much, if not more, DC than Baltimore. Used to work a couple blocks from the mall by the library and was in the food court weekly. My wife works in one of the buildings across the street from that end of the mall but wasn't working yesterday. The first thought we both had was my mother-in-law, who's known to frequent often and lives about as far as Ericc does. She doesn't go on the weekends though.

Early word is it was a jealous ex-boyfriend of the girl who was killed. Not sure if the guy was a new beau, wrong place, wrong time or tried to intervene somehow.

We're still on god damn lockdown. Pissed I don't have a gun in this diaper bag. SWAT made us run really fast. I need to include sprints in my training. What's up with you guys?
Glad she's okay. At least I'm assuming she got out of there, right?

You got a great Mom: tough, works out and has a good sense of humor. You're a lucky guy BD.

Pretty much what everyone had over in country (helmet, body armor including neck and the arm things, groin protector, M4, pistol). He's not wearing elbow and knee pads, though. And before you jack on me for not having shot off 100,000 rds first, this is what I saw going outside the wire, in regular convoys or nighttime cascading raids, regular or spec opz. Were they all slow targets?

I Could careless what fobbits and REMFs are wearing on the rare occasions when they go outside the wire. The cop above is going into a mall in the United States, not running into a mud brick house in Iraq or Afghanistan against Juhadists.

All that shit makes you slow. Hanging shit on your legs makes you even slower. If he had any common sense he could dump 25%-40% the weight he's carrying.

If that is a gas mask , the proper place for it is on your hip. The alternate is on your body armor to the side of your ammo.

Probably the one price of common sense gear he's missing, you mentioned; knee pads.

BD,
Glad your mom is OK and handling the situation so well.

I saw this here yesterday. It was on page 5 of my newspaper today. Page 5. Is this kind of shit not even news anymore?

RE: the cop. You're all sweating port ejection, groin protection and gas masks....it's the highwater pants that are oh so not tactical.

I find the lack of a balaclava face mask disturbing and very non-tactical.

LOL, I just noticed the modern day Barney Fife in the picture has his single point sling attached to the AR15 hand guard and the sling is attached the stock in some weird fashion.

Dude has a $2,000 AR15 SBR, a $600.00 red dot, and $300 tactical light and the department didn't spring for the single point attachment plate.

They do. You are basically my mom, when I was your kid's age and I definitely recognized her badassedry.
You make me happy. :)

Agreed. You're my Mom's age and in far better shape than she is.

Didn't realize IGx was so well-represented here, though I knew Eric.

My wife was at the Mall during the time, at her hair salon. She txts me at 11:20:
"Anything going on at the mall? Shooting? Door is locked at salon, people running."
There was nothing on any local news or the internet; took me almost 10 mins to think of calling the county police. They confirmed, so I was able to give her some info.

But thruout the thing, she had better info than I did. Local news didn't got on it for about half an hour. Sounds like the mall office people were doing a very professional job of calling all the stores, passing along police instruction, etc. The salon people rattled down their cage to close the store, then ushered everybody into the back room, where they hung out for the duration. In addition to communication from the mall office, there was a lively rumor mill: employees at the mall txting their buddies at the next store up etc.

In the end the cops went store-to-store to let people out. My wife was at the other end of the mall: took a solid 2 or 2-1/2 hours before they got to her store. She says the only time she was scared, was when the swat people got to there to get them out. Some of the people in the back room with her were taking flash pics with their camera phones; she said the last thing she wanted was some trigger-happy swat bozo to see the flashes and return fire.

Thank god that it was just one of us there, without the kids.

Funny...my mom said the same thing, the pop pop in the distance was unnerving but the really scary bit was SWAT running them out of there.

A double murder with suicide.
Why the excitement & media flap?
Because it was in a mall? Near DC?

It was pretty overblown...like some Columbine shooting spree when it was a classic love triangle plus bystander fuck fest. I'm guessing the proximity to DC takes the shrill up a couple octaves..

Turns out the local cops regularly drill with the mall management on attacks at the mall, and come in at 1:00 AM to run scenarios, so they were prepped and had a plan.

I'm sure their ultimate fear was a Nairobi-type attack, i.e., the worst possible case. There are people out there thinking about how to pull that sort of thing off.
