Climbing Shanghai Tower

Intense. The video doesn't show them getting down which would be scarier than going up imo.

I'm laying in bed last night watching that on my little iPAD, and could not mentally "mind" away that feeling you get right in the gut. Yowza. Will try it on the high def TV tonight with the kids.
Edit: OK, just watched it on my big-ass Thunderbolt HD display, need medical help to un-retract the privates.

I've been trying to find an illustration or a film screen cap of the drinking game Pierre Bezukhov and his cronies play in Tolstoy's War and Peace where they have to stand in a windowsill with their back to open sky, lean back and chug a bottle of vodka without falling to their death.Shafpocalypse Now wrote:Kazuya Mishima wrote:Damned Russians are a special kind of drunk and stupid.
The closest I could find was this shitfaced tuba player in the Russian Army who's about to pass out.

You *have* to jump forward to the 4:50 mark.Dr. Agkistrodon wrote:At 2:06 my asshole was puckering and I was feeling lightheaded and had to turn it off. Cool video, but scary as shit.

The gurgling in the stomach was spectacular. How the heck do you get down?

I hear you Dr. A! The shot at 1:46 is so amazing...similar to 2:06 but a little less stomach turning. The 4:50 mark is crazy! Walking that razor's edge.

It didn't bother me until they got to the very top. I've painted a few tv towers, water towers, 10 or 12 story buildings which I have rapelled off of but nothing like that. A guy that I used to work with did urban climbing of old towers and such that invited me to go on some weekend climbing trips but I never got around to it. Sounds fun though.

I've climbed some high stuff and rappeled same, and never had that wig out feeling like watching that video with my iPAD while cemented to terra firma. Fascinating that the sensory of it can override all logic. It taps directly into some ancient instincts.Mickey O'neil wrote:It didn't bother me until they got to the very top. I think if they were using protection or wearing BASE jump kits (I thought they were at first) I wouldn't have been bothered.

God damn it I watched it all the way through, with The Future Mrs. Herr Doktor, all the way, no skipping. She kept saying "wooooow!" and the vertigo I was experiencing almost made me barf.
Why do videos like that have such a profound effect on me? I'm sitting on my couch safe and sound for fuck's sake!

As impressive as it was, I kept thinking that the damn thing had been built by a peasant farmer in kung fu slippers.
