I have a ton of groups I like, I get a lot of new ones from word of mouth by other folks who like similar groups as me, but the majority is pandora.
Plug in a station, and I'll usually jot down the names/albums I like, check out a few more of their tracks later, and then consider picking up an album or two.

Trust me-- you aren't missing anything and the brain cells and IQ points you're saving, from not being exposed to pop culture, will probably help prevent you from ever having to deal with shit like Alzheimer's disease.Cave Canem wrote:If you know 1/4 of it then you're way ahead of me and I have a son in college. I'm about 95% deficient in pop culture knowledge. Luckily I don't much care.

They also probably don't have NPR on the presets in their cars. Different strokes.seeahill wrote:Where are teenagers finding their music these days? Not much on MTV anymore. Probably not radio. But they all seem to like the same stuff. And if they don't like it, they know it. So where do they hear it? 'Cuz I never heard of about 3/4 of the music that is currently popular.

Kid, when I was your age we had to watch music videos on TV.DrDonkeyLove wrote:I asked my 13 y.o. grandson this question this morning as I drove him to school and we listened to the same shitty top 40 station that he always wants turned on. He said Youtube is the place where they find music.

Not terrestrial radio. I hear songs on terrestrial radio that I first heard on satellite radio a year before. I heard that song 'Sail' by Awolnation at least a year, if not more, on Alt Nation on Sirius before it was popular on regular radio. For that matter, even on the "Top 40" stations on Sirius.BucketHead wrote:90% of music discovery still occurs on radio. After discovery, though, all the other channels come into play

Yes, terrestrial. Satellite pure play accounts for maybe 5-ish% of discovery.Mickey O'neil wrote:Not terrestrial radio.
