I took one of these bad boys for a spin the other week... (Salsa Beargrease carbon XX1 fatbike)

Image.

Couldn't stop smiling for an hour.
Carbon frame, XX1, the thing weighed 22lbs and was the second most fun bike I have ridden.
Seriously, blag a test ride before passing judgement.
If I had the dollars, it would be hanging on my wall, and would actually be my goto bike for the local trails...
Way too much fun, corners like a train on rails, feels like a big (and fast) BMX bike.
What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.

I set up my current build using a Krampus fork. I guess that gives me some options up front. I just think some of the best size options are probably in the 2.8-3.3 range not quite this monstercow style.

Damnit Alfred,

tell me why my theory is wrong. I want to want one of these.

Just do it. Bigger tires are teh awsomz. It's hard to describe until you ride one. The larger 29'ers are probably the best way to go for pure XC type stuff rather than the 4+" 26'ers.

And the XX1 group is just about the best thing to happen to MTBs in a decade. Just get the XX0 cassette for $100 less.

I'll measure the back end. I think 3.0 might be the biggest I can go. Racing XC I had a ridgid ti bike with those old sticky 3.0 Ritcheys up front and a 2.2 in back. It worked shockingly well.

I know not these components.....I'm still hung up on the late jurassic with my cold forged XTR cranks and Mavic BB. I think it'll go 1x9 with one of those 11-34 jobbers in back.
