The facts are irrelevant, this is now a purely political issue.

No, but deadbeats particularly love it.

It always was. There are all kinds of deadbeats getting there property seized, and assets froze by the government it is a every day thing. It is not even news. What they are going to do with the land, and who is involved in this case makes it political to me. My bet would be that if they did not want this land they would have settled with him, for much less than he owes.

So what? The landowner gets to decide how to use the land, even if that means setting up a solar farm and making money for your cronies.

The solar project was axed last year.

There is definitely some shady shit going down, but the solar thing may be a red herring.

What seems to be missing from this story, for me, is Cliven has been handed down land for generations and now it ends. It seems to me, he's just a sad failure. No better, and very analogous, to an inner city poor kid who makes it in professional sports and then squanders it all because of his backward as culture and ideology.

What's this, an actual video of Bundy with no politically motivated edits? Gee wiz, Bundy doesn't sound like a racist when everything is put in context.

He is dead wrong about his cattle and BLM fees and land, but Bundy is far from the racist some of you want him to be. I guess it wasn't enough from some of you that Bundy just owes the Govt. money.

I also find it funny that a lot of the people railing in the officer friendly thread are giving the BLM and the feds a big fat pass because they don't like Bundy etc.. This story is about the militarization of the Federal bureaucracy and their wiliness to use force against US citizens in not just low level criminal matters, but civil ones.

But go on with your meme; Bundy is a Racist and ignore them Feds playing ninja while burning the Constitution.

Arms are the only true badge of liberty. The possession of arms is the distinction of the free man from the slave.

That Bundy is a nutbar is not shock. Read the whole NYT interview and draw your own conclusions about his other views.

But this was about a drunk with power Bureaucracy showing up with SWAT Teams and sniper rifles to enforce a civil matter easily handled at a much lower level. There won't be any more Lon Horiuchis taking out wives and children with a sniper rifle, tanks shooting depleted uranium rounds at farmhouses, or Ninja suit wearing feds kicking in kids second floor bedroom windows without pushback.

This is not a good development and will not end well. For either side.

For Lefties, welfare is for people who sit on their asses and don't produce anything but welfare babies. Welfare to people who produce stuff is an anathema.

it's not anathema, i believe it is a matter of acknowledging that "welfare" is widely available, including to the prosperous as well as the poor.

who deserves help more--the hardworking guy or the woman and child stuck in a bad spot? how is the culture of dependence among the urban poor different from the of dependence in the midwest farm community?

Most Lefties identify more with deadbeats than with workers. Especially crusty old workers who own land, ride horses, and fly the US flag. That smacks of too much tradition & independence, especially if guns are worn. Lefties favor dependents who grovel and are subservient*.

*However, Lefties admire uppityness in the destruction of US tradition, capitalism, individualism, or adulthood.
