I can live with this, but what's to be done on the summer day when my children's eyes light up at the far-off sound of the familiar melody, and they dash in a frenzy toward me for change? Do I empower them with the history of our country, or encourage the youthful exuberance induced by the ice cream truck? Is it my responsibility to foul the sweet taste of ice cream with their first taste of racism?

OTOH....He can fuck of with the handwringing. A slew of now-benign cultural remnants are based on things we'd currently find repugnant; just like most people wouldn't want to see where hot dogs come from. At this point liberals really need something constructive to do with their time.

The founders of all the players in the ice cream game have gotten where they are from having the double privilege of being white and male. Ben, Jerry, Baskin, Robbins, Braum's. I am boycotting ice cream until Oprah or Jay-Z buy a company.

I will never hear church bells ringing again without smiling.....
Upon hearing that her elderly grandfather had just passed away, Katie went
straight to her grandparent's house to visit her 95-year-old grandmother and comfort her.
When she asked how her grandfather had died, her grandmother replied, He
had a heart attack while we were making love on Sunday morning."
Horrified, Katie told her grandmother that 2 people nearly 100 years old having sex would surely be asking for trouble.
Oh no, my dear," replied granny. "Many years ago, realizing our advanced age, we figured out the best time to do it was when the church bells would start to ring. It was just the right rhythm. Nice and slow and even. Nothing too strenuous, simply in on the Ding and out on the Dong."
She paused to wipe away a tear, and continued, "He'd still be alive if the ice cream truck hadn't come along."
