Looking to copy my current HDD over to SSD (including OS). It's been a while since I've done something like this, and I imagine solutions have evolved quite a bit.

Anybody know of a good solution? This is a laptop, so I will not be able to install both in a single PC, if that matters.

I used Samsung software, but I had a samsung SSD

oops - stupid me, missed your part about it being a laptop. Does your laptop have an eSata port? If so, you will need an eSata enclosure to hook a drive to it for the transfer process.

What OS?

When I built my new computer, I used this process to migrate the HDD to the new one from the old one.

When I replaced the HDD with an SDD, I went ahead and did a clean OS install. I keep all the data on a separate drive, just the apps on the SDD. But this is the process I was going to use.

Several hours of downloads/installs if I go that route. I'd prefer not, given it's not an old installation.
