I don't think I've ever watched a show, but I see competing themes

a) He's an irresponsible physician hawking "miracle" drugs
b) The congressional panel are in with big Pharma and attacking him because he promotes unpatentable supplements

Well my gut says he's sleaze as well, but logically i can't see anything wrong. I mean his audience ARE NOT his patients and any mistaken association of doctor-patient is on the onus of the viewer, imo

I was in GNC a while back and this old couple comes in and asks for chia seeds. I don't think they had them at the time and clerk starts asking them why they are interested, probably to steer them to a different product. They say they saw it on "Dr Oz". As the clerk is trying to talk them into buying something else the husband blows off the clerk and say "I trust him because he's a doctor".

Bottom line people believe stupid shit they see on TV. Even more if it comes from a "Dr."

Interesting question. In theory he could be advocating for a behavior that would then increase his business, like an orthopod running a crossfit gym.

and he's plumping dubious products of potential advertisers, which boost program revenues, which increases his contract. in a sense, false advertising, but removed by one step, which probably insulates him from legal action.

and your argument is basically shoot the messenger. i'm happy for a political to call out a huckster. information is essential for a market to function properly and oz's information is shit. mcaskill did her job by highlighting that. orrin hatch, a whore for the supplement industry, wasn't going to do it.
