Dude: "I just started Smolov. I am going to add 130# to my squat in six weeks. And I'm going to add S&S. But don't worry, just twice a week. You know, for recovery."
Pavel: "Um, maybe just take a walk instead."

I don't have a lot of experience with vampires, but I have hunted werewolves. I shot one once, but by the time I got to it, it had turned back into my neighbor's dog.

Smolov is actually a really fun progression. No one ever talks about that part.

And by fun do you mean this?

Why are DD-type posts always "I started this program today (actually, I'm typing this while I'm still halfway through the first workout) and it is Teh Fookin Booyah?" Instead of, "Well, I'm two months in now, and it's not a bad program."
I like Pavel and I don't know how he can live with the forum crap day in and day out. Is he making that much $$$ ? Pavel, if you're lurking here, I salute you.

Opposite of that. Smolov is all about doing the work without bombast, booyah and chest bumping. If you need ammonia to get through a workset, you are doomed.

Congrats...just curious, how many days a week did you average? As with Dan's 40-Day Program, high consistency is the key to making it work. I did the 40 Day a few years ago and liked it; I'm sure I'd like S&S as well.
Yes, I definitely favour that kind of approach. I am using the program 5-6 days a week. I have all the boring details on my training log in the forum. Just moving up to the 48kg now. I may switch it up after a few weeks of that but I'm in a nice groove to be honest.

Well, after reading this I just have to ask how many more times will he be able to write and sell the same material?
I did like the warm up and stretching stuff, and the program has always been a decent place to start for someone, as long as they add presses.

But Comrade! Does not the rugged Turkish Get-Up, favored by mythical Czarist strongmen and brokedick physiotherapists, sufficiently train in an isometric fashion, the press?Shafpocalypse Now wrote: the program has always been a decent place to start for someone, as long as they add presses.
Please advise, I only want a hint of pecs without thigh-chafey legs.

I always wondered about this. It's exactly the same reasoning behind the lats working isometrically when deadlifting, but the loads being so different I'm not sure about the results.Bud Charniga's gaping asshole wrote:But Comrade! Wouldn't it work better to do heavy press lockouts? After all, you can clean and push press/jerk waaay more than you can do TGU.

You ever seen a cycling plumber who wrestles with small calves, forearms and neck? Didn't think so.

Also, Drpp's Smolov variants actually are more useful than the regular Smolov for most.
