Sicilian detective series based on a series of novels. Pretty typical Italian detective fare in that it has a strong focus on elitism, bureaucracy, and corruption. It's very Italian, which takes some getting used to. The main character is great, and the mysteries are very good. It's not at the level of the various Morse series', but IMO it's up there with everything else. The episodes are long enough to actually develop the story and, like the better British stuff, there isn't much waste.
You can find subtitled episodes playing or streaming from time to time on PBS or BBC; if you speak Italian, you can probably find the originals much easier. Hopefully Netflix jumps on this series.
