RIP James Garner, BAMF

Post by Turdacious »

Garner, born James Scott Baumgarner in Norman, Okla., was the son of a carpet layer. His mother, who was part Cherokee Indian, died when he was just 4. After dropping out of high school, Garner joined the Merchant Marines. He served in the Army during the Korean War, where he was wounded in action and twice received the Purple Heart.

He was one of the greats. I watched36 Hours on TMC while treadmilling the other day (yeah, it's about me). A nice little flick in which Garner did his usual good job. RIP Maverick

RIP....

Solid motorsport career as well. Garner was a legit off-road guy and think he raced some trans am sports car as well.

Apparently pretty decent in an F3 car too, which they used in Grand Prix

I just started re-watching the Rockford Files now that they showed up on NF streaming.

He did the majority of his own driving stunts on the Rockford Files. They made him stop but that lasted only a couple of weeks, he was better than the stunt drivers they had. He chose the car for the show because he knew it was a good desing for all the 360 degree spins and shit he did on the show. Hard to flip it.
