Don't mess with Texas.

I like how security did nothing but hide behind the wall until ordinary citizens had the guy on the ground.

Yeah... I also like how no one did anything to intervene until blows were struck...Phaedrus wrote:I like how security did nothing but hide behind the wall until ordinary citizens had the guy on the ground.
The whole bystander effect thing is scary. I've been as guilty as anyone at times, but I try to do better.
The other day, I was having lunch w. colleagues and I mentioned that I called 911 because I heard what I thought were rifle shots in the neighborhood. A couple of people were incredulous that I would call 911 at that, and I'm thinking "Jesus, if you wouldn't call 911 after hearing shots fired in the city, what WOULD it take for you to call 911?".
Another true story, one night, I'm curling up w. a book before nodding off and I hear a girl screaming "SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!" from an apartment complex parking lot probably 100-200 yards away (an upscale apartment complex if you're wondering). I run out there and confront an a-hole who had hit his woman. Not one f-ing other person comes out at all. Not one. It still pisses me off to think about it. There I am having to deal w. an a-hole by myself when there are hundreds of people within earshot. That Kitty Genovese bystander effect thing is absolutely real. You're on your own. If you think someone's coming to help, good luck with that.

Re: Dallas Airport Fight
I've been on both sides Boris...however, the ugliest incident was at a laundromat when I was younger...there was a mother there smacking the shit out of a 4 year old kid. I told her to stop it, and she got in my face and started smacking the kid even more, so I asked the attendent to call 911, and when she wouldn't, I went to the nearest pay phone and used it myself.
While I was gone, the woman had taken my clothes out of the washer and thrown them outside in a mud puddle and taken off.
I had to wait around and was interviewed by the police when they came, and one of the cops was pissy that I'd called them for a 'mother disciplining her child'...I called CPS when I got home and reported it too, but I was pretty pissed at the cops.
A few years prior to that, I had a girlfriend I was breaking up with, and she started throwing this massive shit fit at the apartment, and I made her leave, and she screamed and pounded on the door and some of my neighbors came out and she was encouraging them to kick my ass and to call the cops on me because I stole all her money and had it in the apartment...eventually the cops came she calmed down. I was always thankful she didn't cry rape.

No good deed goes unpunished, I guess. At least I think you're cool...Shafpocalypse Now wrote: While I was gone, the woman had taken my clothes out of the washer and thrown them outside in a mud puddle and taken off.

I just saw Gone Girl. I think this incident reflects well on the American way of doing things i.e you can mouth-off as much as you like and you're simply exercising you're constitutional rights, but go physical and it's no-holds-barred.Boris wrote:Yeah... Contrast this with the British method: you can go to jail simply for "Calling a Jew a Jew" on twitter, but if you belong to an ethnic minority and you "rape 1400 children" you'll have the protection of the marxist Labour party and its media wing the BBC.
