He's had that out in weird versions (synthetic voice) for a few years. I'm used to it, so not to understate the impressiveness, but It's important to note what appears to be an abnormally light draw on that bow. A guy could be a pretty fast swordsman with a sword that doesn't weigh anything.
One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.

Re: Lars Andersen archer
Howard Hill, the great archer, hunted with 75# to 140# bows, but when he did trick shooting for movies or exhibitions he'd drop down to 35-40#. I would guess that one bow that Lars was using was in the 30-35# range.Grandpa's Spells wrote:He's had that out in weird versions (synthetic voice) for a few years. Re: Lars Andersen archer
I don't have an idea about the historical claims that Mr. Andersen makes but come on...I would like to see some of the people such as the author of this article make the shots Mr. Andersen made. Sour grapes.Grandpa's Spells wrote:http://geekdad.com/2015/01/danish-archer/
" It’s worth noting that the narrator goes to great pains to explain why shooting at close-up distances is so important and denigrates “warrior archers only shooting at long distances,” (just one of many totally false claims) in order to paper over the fact that the man obviously can’t hit anything that’s more than about 20 feet away."
The video states, "modern slow archery has led people to believe that war archers only shot at long distances, however Lars found that they could shoot at any distance." He doesn't denigrate it as the author states. The author is being very choosy with his quotes.
"His gimmick is speed, not accuracy, and it’s obvious to anyone who actually knows anything about archery that his complete lack of any kind of consistent form is going to require camera tricks and a lot of luck, which is exactly what’s on display here."
So the author is saying that because Lars lacks what modern archers would say is good form that the shots are faked. Could there be fakery in some of the shots? Yes. Does that mean there IS fakery in the shots? No.
Further the author denigrates Lars' form then states "The famous Native American archer Ishi was known for shooting in a style very similar to Andersen’s, putting the arrow on the outside of the bow in the style of the Yahi People of the Pacific Northwest."...then states that the pictures of archers shooting with the arrow on the outside were inaccurate.
"We’re told “modern archers use only one hand, but in the past, some archers allegedly used both hands to give the arrow more power.” This is utter nonsense," I think what Lars is saying is not that archers don't use their back muscles or whatever the author is trying to state but that the front arm pushing toward the target is used to increase the power as opposed to a static front arm. I don't know about archery but this method is common in some slingshot methods esp some Chinese methods and probably has some carry over from archery methods of the area.
I would like to see the people who cry "foul" so loudly make the shots that Lars makes. Maybe Lars' historical information is off but who cares, he seems to be having a lot of fun, he does some really neat and entertaining shots and is probably inspiring people to go out and try their hand at archery.

This thread disappointed me.

Re: Lars Andersen archer
I've been involved in archery for 60 years more or less - had a shop at one time - made my own bows - arrows - strings - heads etc. Done a lot of shooting, hunting, killed a lot of stuff etc. The guy here is good and there is no need to fake those shots - there has been more than a few "show archers" shooting aspirins etc out of the air - shooting birds on the jump - and on and on - read any of the Howard hill stuff out there - incredible shots. As for the arrow or the inside or the outside - this just shows the guys ignorance. English and Europeans used their fingers to draw the bow so a right handed shooter puts the arrow on the left side so it tends not to "spin" away from the bow as it is drawn (long bow length due to the wood available). Asians and many primitive people draw the bow with their thumb (often with a thumb ring of horn etc) so a right handed shooter puts the arrow on the right for the same reasoning (shorter bow lengths pinch more).
Re: Lars Andersen archer
I ordered Hills hunting book after reading this thread.Checked on google and found that if I can`t be bothered with building my own bow there are people here in Sweden that build longbows.

Re: Lars Andersen archer
Long bows are fun to shoot.I learned on recurves. Sent my original Bear Panda to some guy on the internet a few years ago for the cost of postage. I used the longbows for a league for a couple of years. Haven't drawn a bow since I had my shoulder repaired. Vanity keeps me from dropping down in weights. Stupid I know. I've always wanted to pull the trigger on ordering a Hill bamboo longbow. Compound bows are for pussies. As to Hill's book, his instinct method is different from anything I've ever tried. I couldn't quite get it.

Good stuff. Lars has probably done more to popularize archery in recent times than anyone else (other than Baden Powell anyway).Grandpa's Spells wrote:This guy seems all right after all
