Who the fuck wants a share of McDonalds? Or $tarbucks? Or Outback Steakhouse? Who the fuck cares if there's more competition for resources and shit jobs? It's not the Free Market's fault, that shit would happen anyway because we're breeding a hell of a lot more than we were in the 50's (and you can blame the baby boomers for that one, among many other things) and thus, there are more of us. It's up to everybody else to work harder and produce more, in order to balance the scale and rightfully so. You live in a society. It affords you certain things. Therefore, you have to give back by working harder and trying to spend your money intelligently and believe me, working harder to advance yourself is a service you not only do yourself, but society at-large, too.

America is a meritocracy, and we're supposed to want to work our way up out of the shit, toward greatness (and whatever your definition of "greatness" is doesn't matter, just so long as you fuckin' go for it).

This is exactly what I mean by deracinated. Who on earth decided that life should be like that? It is a horror.

Well, I would like to state, first, that I did *NOT* decide that life should be like that. But that's what life in America is, when viewed from my particular point of view.

Back me up here, you can complain about it all you want, but my view of it isn't all that far-fetched when you distill it all down.

If you want a fighting chance at living a good life in this country, you have to educate yourself, you have to work hard, and you have to strive for it. That's the way it is. And this isn't a bad way, at all!

Teach a man to fish and you'll feed him for the rest of his life.

I like working hard, and I like excelling at my career. I like being successful (my definition of success), and I like being more successful.

Everybody has a semblance of a choice. If you don't want to work at McDonalds, educate yourself, work harder, and try to get a better job and maybe, just maybe, it'll happen for you.

Life isn't easy. The World is unfair. America is unfair. But that isn't going to stop me from living up to my potential, I won't let it.

And I would like to add- it could be a Hell of a lot worse, elsewhere.

And this isn't a bad way, at all!

I'm no saying that at all. What I am saying is that the piss-poor shape our economy finds its self in from time to time is not the fault of the influx of Mexicans "taking our jobs."

Frankly, I think economic hardships in this country are the result of the buy-now, pay-later lifestyle Americans have become accustomed to.

In the late 90's, early 2000's there were interest-only mortgages, available to just about anybody (probably because there was a shit ton of money floating around due to the IT bubble), and suddenly, lots of folks landed in big-ass McMansions they couldn't really *afford* to pay for. The housing bubble got bigger and bigger and before too long, it popped. The IT bubble did, too. That fucked up the economy for a while.

Look no further than supply and demand. People were demanding more house than they could afford, supply met that demand, there was money to be made, and yes, the fucking ship sank. But that wouldn't have happened if idiots didn't want too much house. It all comes back to The People.

But that bullshit has nothing at all to do with the opportunity to go out there, get a better job, and work hard. I live within my means, and I'm doing better and better as time goes by.

And don't think that I entirely disagree with you. There are crooks on Wall St. making money hand over fist in all manner of illegitimate ways, and I don't agree with that at all. That's not what I'm talking about.

I don't think the Free Market is perfect. No system is. But for a guy like me, who wants to make an honest living, while working hard at a good job, America's Free Market still affords people like me that opportunity, and I refuse to feel badly about taking advantage of it, and making a good, honest life for myself with it.

LOL Almost to a fault sometimes! But that doesn't make it BAD, or EVIL. Also, the Free Market System allows you to be able to make a good living manufacturing, and giving people what they want, too! It's a WIN/WIN in my opinion, and it works a hell of a lot better than a lot of other systems.

Now, there again- there are ways to abuse that system and yes, it does get abused. But it is ignorant to condemn a system because it can be abused and ignore the People who abuse it, or condemn the entire system because some people abuse it.

And yes, it is a bad thing to tell people what they ought to want, and force anything on them.
