Scott Weiland RIP
Such a drag. Never been a huge Neil Young fan, but "A lot of great artists get affected. A lot of great art goes down the drain" sums it up. Amy Winehouse, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and on it goes.
One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.

Mucho powerful singing voice.

OK, question:
"Crackerman" has got to be one of the best STP songs that never gets radio play. WTF is that song about?

I liked Lounge Fly back in the day, but on re-listening today, it hasn't aged that well. The first Velvet Revolver album had some pretty good stuff.

I liked STP a lot more than I ever expected to. Those DeLeo brothers are solid musicians, Weiland was a great fit for that sound, and Interstate Love Song is one of the great rock songs of the last 20-25 years.
In the mill, getting down.

I love Big Empty but he hasn't done anything of merit in years and I don't care for 99% of his stuff so as much as I hate to hear that he has passed I really can't find a reason to give a shit. I'm still pissed at Layne Staley.

Jesus Christ.
Between the handwringing gun threads, the continual musing as to which Dan John program to not follow and now this rubbish, it's clear another hiatus is needed.
Stone Temple Pilots/Cold Play/Nickleback whatever tehy are called are all overrated pukes.
The talent level is somewhere around this...

Audioslave is Chris Cornell. I know Chris Cornell. Scott is no Chris Cornell.
I exaggerate. I met him a couple times and we talked cars and raising kids.

That's alright. I drank my face off with Uncle Kracker a couple of years ago (one of my coworkers grew up with him and they were stuck in town due to weather).Blaidd Drwg wrote:Audioslave is Chris Cornell. I know Chris Cornell. Scott is no Chris Cornell.

Re: Scott Weiland RIP
At the risk of sounding like a freak, I think I play "Like a Stone" at least 5x per week on Spotify. I try to hit Cornell's notes; I can't seem to come close on this part of the song without coughing....
And on I read until the day was gone;
And I sat in regret of all the things I've done;
For all that I've blessed, and all that I've wronged.
In dreams until my death I will wander on.

Was never a fan of STP. Velvet Underground...eh, I wanted it to be GnR part 2 and it wasn't. But having struggled with addiction and skated a little too close to that edge myself, I feel a little twinge every time it takes someone out. RIP.

Re: Scott Weiland RIP
Darf said it on FB. STP was major labels taking back their share. As a singer, Weiland was accomplished, but he was no artist, his legacy is extra medium and regular bullshit.
I view the success of STP and Alanis Morrisette as the pealing death knell of that crazy 90s music scene

Also agree about Audioslave. Wish they would have stayed together. Chris Cornell has an amazing voice.The Venerable Bogatir X wrote:Whatev, bald dog. If Crackerman can't light you up, there is no hope for you.Blaidd Drwg wrote:Jesus Christ.

I don't pretend to be even a pseudo-musical mind but would have never thought that guy's voice and his lyrics, were anything less than the tippity top of the rock n' roll foodchain. But hey, I though Amy Winehouse was absolutely brilliant, too, so what do I know...........
Re: Scott Weiland RIP
The important thing to me is that you like what you like regardless of what someone else tells you. As for myself I feel free to like and enjoy John Coletrane, Sonny Rollins, Dexter Gordon, etc on the same playlist as STP, Ace of Base (ha!), Garbage, etc on the same playlist as Jeff Beck, Joe Satriani, Mike Stern and on it goes. Like what you like just because it appeals to you. Screw everyone else's opinions.The Venerable Bogatir X wrote:Wow.TerryB wrote:I fucking hate Chris Cornell.
