No big secret that I am pro-cop, but....

Post by The Venerable Bogatir X »

In the case of this Miami 'bank robber', I can't fathom myself or any other cop I've ever worked with, shooting this dude. Whatever happened to taking a maglite to someone with a blade? My very first collar was a woman who tried to slash her baby daddy and then me with a box cutter, and me and the other rookie I was with were literally surrounded by friends of both of them and I got her disarmed (child in stroller, too), we didn't even think of drawing our guns and this was motherfucking Harlem just shy of midnight in the ugly early 90s.

At the risk of sounding like Spells, my first impression of the Miami bank robber shooting was 'you have got to be fucking kidding me'.

Got a news story link? I can't see having an issue with shooting a perp with a deadly weapon. I spend a shit load of time working against bladed attacks but if I have my 1911, good chance I'm going to shoot them. it's not a game, fuck fair, sporting or any of that. Threaten deadly force? Die by deadly force.

I try like hell to not Monday morning QB these guys/cops caught on video and when I do, I rarely say so as we never see the full picture from a smart phone video (as much as the Spells of the world want to believe it). This one blows my mind, though. Like Shape commented on the Officer Friendly thread today (and I only looked at that horseshit thread since I saw him post on it and know he's an ex-cop, too), just use the PR-24 or as I mentioned, your maglite on his wrist. WTF did he need to shoot that guy from 12' away? That's another one of those "Blink" moments, I understand, but an avoidable "Blink Moment" if you don't have your rifle out in the first place. Again, this cop, for all we know, could have been under the belief at the time that the guy had a bomb or whatever; but to disarm him from a straight edge did not require a gunshot to the chest from a car length away.

The bad guy was very likely a colossal piece of shit before this event, and I have no remorse for his death....none. Where I do feel is for that cop, whose life is very likely ruined, and has made his brother's and sister's jobs that much tougher.

Why should he chose to use his stick ( IDK if they have those shitty ASP, PR-24s or just a good ol' NBC stick) on a shithead with a blade who won't comply with his orders when he already has an AR trained on him? A guy that is acting like he's mental?

This should not make his brothers and sisters job harder, society needs to get it's fucking nuts back in it's sack and accept that if you have a weapon, are acting nuts and not complying , the cops can fucking shoot you. A cop should not have to out down his carbine and go to sticks vs blade ( And I'd love my odds with a blade over most cops with a stick.) nor should a citizen.

And as mentioned the call came out as a guy with a bomb, in light of recent events, that elevates shit, so the rifle was probably out already. It does not matter if he was shot with a pistol or a rifle, fucker had a blade and needed to be stopped, he was and permanently at that.

As Turd suggested, it's possible the guy was an EDP.

Not sure nuts back in the sack is shooting the guy from a dozen feet away when the lady cop right next to him could have disarmed him with one good shot to the wrist with a flashlight. In 'the old days'....(20th Century or perhaps earlier), this kind of shooting was less commonplace, not more.

In the scenario I described of my first collar, surely you wouldn't want cops pulling guns with a baby in the stroller in the vicinity....and that chick was much more aggressive than the guy you saw in that video.

I hated my PR-24, FWIW, but we barely had any training on it and the more senior cops busted our balls for having them over night sticks. Most of us who had them left them in the car to answer jobs, but the maglite always came with.

Yes, but in this shoot, there was not the baby.

The nuts in the sack is for society as far as don't be women and cue over idiots acting nuts getting a bullet. I also think previous generations of cops, which you are my 20th century friend; were more hands on and allowed to be.

I'd rather he slam the muzzle in that guys throat than let officer Goodbottom go in on him. Yeah she could disarm him with a swing of the stick, she can also find herself up in bad breath range getting her throat slit for it too.

My old Sensei loved the PR-24, but he carried it when he felt he needed something meaner than his stick.

Was your maglite the one with the C or the D cells batteries? The C-cell ones are harder to find, I like that thinner tube but I had a D when I did the Pizza gig. That would break Razorboy's wrist/hand/head for sure if need be.

The flashlight as an impact weapon is a big no no nowadays. Spray, tazer, hands, baton, and firearm are the approved tools and the fucks in the command staff love the nonlethal shit over the baton or laying on hands. Which is why you sew cops spraying 13 year ikd girls with OC. And you'd better not use an unapproved choke hold or that's lethal force used in a nonlethal situation.

I got out before it got too stupid but fuck me its gone off the rails.

Most of the current IGx crop doesn't know your story, but thanks for your two cents and of course, much respect. Now based on what you said, I think that female cop did taze the dude about the same time the other cop shot him with the rifle. 'Policy' is a big enemy.....guys with big fists can actually save lives if 'policy makers' let them. That's the real 'old days'.

I had a double D but yes, a coupe of guys had the 3 C. Cops are dorks.....one of the things we'd do is steal that little rubber button cover off of each other's maglites. Basically, we all had 3 or 4 of them, but none on the flashlight. Shhhh, Warren Wilhelm Jr's (Bill Di Blasio) war on the black man making a few bucks off of loosies does not fit the narrative.
