My current podcast list
Bill Burr Monday Morning Podcast entertaining but it's just Bill rambling
The Art of Wrestling. I love this one.
Doug Stanhope Shotclog this is just noise but I like Doug.
The Fighter and the Kid. Getting tiresome
Fat man on Batman. Nerd porn
Jocko and Echo. Not terrible but echo's voice grates.
Meat Eater. Good hunting and outdoors conversation
Wrestling with Depression. Fuckng terrible
The Dana Gould Hour. Half entertaining half nerd rage and single guy sadness
Inside BJJ. If all three guys are on it's funny but gawddamn the sound quality can be shitty
Opie Radio. Depends on the guest
Ten Minute Podcast. Either funny or fucking terrible no in between
I have a few more that I skim but those are my main ones. I've tried Josh Wolf and Your Mom's House but th were fucking atrocious.
I try Sincere and Mahler every few months. Gawddamn they are terrible.

Leaving aside some that I've never actually listened to. I'm lucky to listen to 1 in 10 for most of these - the topics or guests just don't look interesting

Gave up on S&C podcasts - it's like reading about visual art (or listening to people talk about visual art), the mediums just don't transfer and there's really nothing new and exciting to talk about. The occasional S&C guy/guru on someone else's podcast works because they're having to explain shit to an outsider (crazy-ass Steve Maxwell on Rogan, for instance)

Radiolab
This American Life
WTF w/ Marc Maron
Still Untitled: The Adam Savage Project
The Partially Examined Life - informal philosophy discussion
New Yorker Fiction - contemporary authors read short stories from the NYer archive
Joe Rogan - man, this is more like 1 in 20 these days. Gonna listen to the Bas Rutten podcast from this week
Tim Ferriss - I've only ever listened to the Rick Rubin one, which was such a horrible miss for a guy who seems genuinely interesting
Royal Society of Art arts and humanities lectures
Henry & Heidi - Henry Rollins started a podcast but it's stopped because he's been busy I guess
Harvard Business Review Ideacast - this is like brussels sprouts for a child, it sits on the plate but I never actually touch it
The History of Rome - podcast about (ta-da) the history of Rome. Far prefer it in style to Dan Carlin, who needs to dial down the bombast and self-pleasure several notches
Revolutions - podcast about (ta-da) revolutions, from the same guy
Drunken Taoist - downloaded to listen to one with Sam Sheridan, Daniele Bolelli is hard to take seriously. Any PhD who says his colleagues don't like him because he's too cool with the kids is massively full of shit.
Death, Sex and Money - one of those post-This American Life storyelling shows/podcasts
Smart Passive Income, Startup School, the 5AM Miracle - friend told me to give them a try, I can't bring myself to do it
America's Test Kitchen, Serious Eats, Bon Appetit, The Splendid Table - cooking podcasts
In Our Time w/ Melvyn Bragg - scholarly discussions about shit that would never get discussed on Amerikkkan radio
Found My Fitness - I wanna fuck Rhonda Patrick in a sauna
Jonah Keri Podcast - baseball stats guy/analyst, have only listened to the Keith Olbermann eps so far but it's good
BBC World Service Documentaries

What's good about it? I've not listened. His experiences were as interesting as any I've heard on the subject matter but his ability to reflect intellectually was staggeringly poor. He came off as a caricature of a Naval Officer and not someone I could listen to more than say 20 minutes of in a row.
I got the feeling on Ferris and Rogan he was a bit deer in headlights "I'm a SEAL, I shouldn't talk about myself. I shouldn't be talking period." Ferriss hyped the "super warrior who never gives interviews" angle...

On the podcast, he dissects historical military actions, wars and leaders, annotates/reviews books like USMC Manual, talks BJJ and training, takes listener questions (seems to properly prep his answers). I've gotten a book to read out of it, at least.

All this said, I have to be in the mood to listen. Very often I just want something light, fun, comedic and a bit insightful I can passively listen to - like Carolla or Anthony Cumia. Jocko's and ones like it, I have to properly listen to or there's no point.

Serial this season is much better than I expected it to be. Lots of stuff about Bergdahl I didn't know about, and they're working from many hours of interviews another guy did, so it's deep content and not McNuggets.
One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.

Heh.

Also, I can't bring myself to listen to fucking radiolab anymore, after 3 episodes.

When does it get interesting? I nearly made it through his initial episode and made it an entire 15 minutes into E02 before I unsubscribed. "Uh...uh...uh, I get...um, get up early because I have discipline and...zzz". He talks so much without saying shit that we should invite him here.

I'm glad nobody's list is as shitty as mine. At least I don't have that doof Carl Lenore's podcast on it.

Your list made me feel a lot better about mine, actually.

I listen to this on NPR when I can catch it and occasionally check it out online - great stuff usually.

I've went back and started over with Cabana's Art of Wrestling podcast now that I'm watching New Japan and Lucha Underground. He had a lot of those cats on in the early years so it's good to hear them again after watching them wrestle. I love how much Bill Burr mocks himself. Most fucking comedians act like they are fucking MENSA members when most are morons with a specific skill set.
