Springfield XD Mod 2 and Sig P320

Post by j-cubed »

Considering some new purchases. What I'm thinking is getting a sub-compact and regular size of the same gun, same caliber, to have around the house and to carry.

I went to the local range with a "try before you buy" rental program. Basically rent an hour or more of range time, take two handguns from their huge rental stack, and swap out guns with others as often as you like.

It came down to the XD Mod 2, and Sig P320. The new grip and ergonomics of the XD Mod 2 make it really comfortable in the hand, and easy to shoot. I preferred the grip of the Mod 2 to the regular XD, XDM and XDS. The double stack XD Mod 2 in subcompact felt much better to shoot than the XDS single stack in sub compact. Although the latter was a fair amount thinner and easier to carry concealed.

The Sig P320 is the smoothest trigger in a striker fired weapon I've ever fired. Not that the XD was bad, but it was a noticeable difference. It also felt very good in the hand. This is their second go around with a "modular" design. Where you use the same trigger assembly in full, duty, compact or subcompact slide/barrels/frame.

Both brands were grouping really well, and could be shot with some decent accuracy at the same rate of fire.

I ended up buying the P320 in full size with night sights, and ordered a subcompact kit.

Your choice should be between HK VP's, Walther PPQs, and Glocks

I have an XDM and a Steyr. There's a lot more take up on the trigger w. the XDM and I think most people would say the trigger is mushy, but I shoot a lot better with it.

Nice looking gun. If you like SIGs ( A lot to like) than this is worth a look.

I don't like pistols where the slide is that high up from the hand but some do and I could always get used to it while shooting the Swedeblaster. I liked how DA/SA SIGs allowed you to cock the hammer for a SA pull if you wanted it. Can't do that with this but the specs on this say a 5.5# (like Glock) - 7.5#s ( Is this adjustable?) but you said it was a nice trigger and that can be the biggest seller.

You did not say what calibre you got it in?

I think I'd like it in 9mm or .40Short&Weak, my Chip McCormack 10 rd mags make me stick with early 20th century tech improved for .45acp.

Let us now how it goes when you convert back and forth between full size service pistol and sub compact concealment configuration? It's a solid as hell concept.

The M&P line gets quite good reviews too, which is surprising regarding the fate of the previous SW autos. Check out their subcompact too

Received the SubCompact frame from Sig (9mm). Trijicon night sights are standard on their conversion kits.

This weapon shoots very well, clear sight picture on the full size and subcompact. Both frames feel good in the hand. Takes about 2 minutes to switch from one frame to the other. Fired different brands of ammo, including some that must be over 10 years old, no jams yet. The subcompact, recoil wise, is incredibly manageable, in 9mm at least, with maybe just a little more recoil than the full size. I had my CPL class yesterday, and we had to put 150 rounds downrange, and this weapon performed really well.

I ordered a holster from BlackHillsLeather, the same guy that made my cowboy action shooting rig, and I received an email that it's made and on it's way.

The trigger is still great, pretty clean break, short reset. There is no adjustment to it that I have seen, or have in the manual. I haven't weighed the actual pull. It's not as good a feel as my 1911, but it's better than the Browning I had, and seemed better to me than the XD adn S&W shield (personal preference)

This weapon has no trigger lever, grip, or manual safety, in case anyone is looking for those features. You do not need to pull the trigger to disassemble the weapon either.

Sounds like a nice weapon. Enjoy and may you never have need of it's real purpose.
