The Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Financial Management & Comptroller) (OASA[FM&C]) and the Defense Finance and Accounting Service Indianapolis (DFAS Indianapolis) did not adequately support $2.8 trillion in third quarter journal voucher (JV) adjustments and $6.5 trillion in yearend JV adjustments1 made to AGF data during FY 2015 financial statement compilation.2 The unsupported JV adjustments occurred because OASA(FM&C) and DFAS Indianapolis did not prioritize correcting the system deficiencies that caused errors resulting in JV adjustments, and did not provide sufficient guidance for supporting system‑generated adjustments.
Short answer....Umm we spent a couple..maybe 6.5 trillion bux. Can't, won;t or really don;t want to tell y'all about it.
This would be more disturbing if:
1) The money represented real wealth or productivity. Dealing with numbers like these is just 1's and 0's in a system. We have as much money as the Fed says we need to keep rolling along.
2) The numbers weren't so mind numbingly large. It's gotten to where a hundred billion $ is chicken shit money for any government program (see point 1).
Until we get a balanced budget amendment and force the government to spend what it takes in in taxes, and has to go back to the people for another check at the end of the year to cover any over spending, none of this matters. We'll sell more debt and keep chugging along. Like the story about the guy who owes $10k is owned by the bank and the guy who borrows $10 million owns the bank, at least we're the guy who borrowed $10 million - we own the bank. Nobody can call us on our debt because the whole system would crash and burn.
