Don't know why 1911 in 9mm isn't more popular.
One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.

Well as an example, a Glock 17 is 17+1 and that SR1911 (beautiful gun, btw) is a 9+1. That, and the G17 is around half the price.Grandpa's Spells wrote:Don't know why 1911 in 9mm isn't more popular.
So, for capacity and economic reasons, most modern double stack 9mm's are going to look more favorable than their 1911 counterparts. Not saying one is better than the other, just that there's very compelling reasons to choose one over the other for the average gun buyer who is considering performance, practicality, and budget.
Re: Thoughts on Handguns?
You can get what is essentially or was supposed to be the 9mm version of the 1911 and still get 13 rounds in a Hi-Power.
Re: Thoughts on Handguns?
I previously thought this thread was proof you were all mental, but having seen how fucking remote and strange some of your country is and speaking to some cops about how quick they can get to you I can see the appeal. None of this counts if you live in a big city though. In these circumstances you need to put the guns down and love thy neighbour. Or at least just be content with stabbing them with screwdrivers like the cool kids in England do. It's a more compassionate option.

People in NYC are basically a 4 minute jog from a police station everywhere they go. Where my parents live, the closest of the county deputies might be a 30 minute drive away. If he's not already occupied. My parents did call the fuzz once. 90 minutes later, one showed up. Also, does England have bears, wolves, coyotes, and poisonous snakes? 3 out 4 now where I live.

We have bears but if you're not into that scene they leave you alone.
EDIT: who the fuck shoots a snake?? You must be awesome. The armed police in our country can't even hit a human being in the torso consistently.

The gen 4 17s are around $550, and those 9mm Ruger 1911s are around $650 nowKazuya Mishima wrote:Well as an example, a Glock 17 is 17+1 and that SR1911 (beautiful gun, btw) is a 9+1. That, and the G17 is around half the price.Grandpa's Spells wrote:Don't know why 1911 in 9mm isn't more popular.

I tried a Glock again not that long ago - I think you're absolutely right. Very easy to shoot.Grandpa's Spells wrote:Finding Glocks big was user error, at least on my part. Took a course this weekend and Gen 3 & Gen 4 Glock 17 and 19 are very easy shooting guns.Grandpa's Spells wrote:This was my experience as well, switching XD for Beretta. In case it's a hand size thing, I also really liked shooting 9mm Sigs, and Ruger revolvers, and any range with rentals will have both. I find Glocks a little bulk for my small, fat hands w. short fingers, but 1911s and Berettas generally fit better.

They invented this new thing called a "shotgun". It's super effective.odin wrote:

Also there are shotshells to go in handguns, and snakes is exactly what most people get them for. Black snakes living in your shed or barn is actually a plus. Rattlers, not so much.

My father has a .22 for just this purpose. He would probably prefer to relocate them but he ain't exactly the crocodile hunter anymore...Schlegel wrote:They invented this new thing called a "shotgun". It's super effective.odin wrote:

Yeah but HPs fucking blow courtesy of the hammer bite and shit trigger. If you don't mind the weight of a steel double-stack 9, some variation of the CZ 75B is the best choice.tonkadtx wrote:You can get what is essentially or was supposed to be the 9mm version of the 1911 and still get 13 rounds in a Hi-Power.
Re: Thoughts on Handguns?
Since I sold my Wilson 9mm 1911, the gun I shoot best has become a Gen 2 Glock 17. No weird finger grooves to deal with makes the grip more comfortable to me. Put a drop-in Wilson Combat barrel and black rear/fiber optic front sights and it's a joy to shoot.

Did the Wilson Barrel make a big difference?
I was looking at getting parts from Duex Ex Machina including their drop in gunfighter trigger.

Re: Thoughts on Handguns?
Seems to be noticeably more accurate than a Gen 4 17 or a VP9, but that could just be placebo, my comfort with it.
Re: Thoughts on Handguns?
I don't get hammer bite from them, but it's easily fixed if you do. Fixing the trigger is done by deleting the magazine disconnect, it's a piece of cake. Buy one punch and you can do it at home. I love Hi Powers, I recently found an alloy framed model, and when I can send that out, it's going to be my dream carry gun.milosz wrote:Yeah but HPs fucking blow courtesy of the hammer bite and shit trigger. This man gets them before I shoot them. Trigger and Polish job every time.

Lol. I read this while stroking my 9mm and almost shot myselfShapecharge wrote:An average family of say five should be spending a minimum of 20k a year on weapons, ammo, range time, and professional instruction if you really want them to be safe. Re: Thoughts on Handguns?
Nighthawk is doing custom Hi-Powers that might make me change my mind on them, if I had an extra $3500 sitting around.

Shape, not everyone has the kind of money your drop on specialty barbells that don't get used!buckethead wrote:Lol. Re: Thoughts on Handguns?

I'd want a front fiber optic instead of gold bead, though.
