http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-e ... liticsNewsWithin a few weeks of winning the White House, President-elect Donald Trump could face another group of U.S. citizens, a federal jury in California, courtesy of a lawsuit by former students of his now-defunct Trump University who claim they were defrauded by a series of real-estate seminars.
A hearing in federal court in San Diego is set for Thursday, and the trial is scheduled to begin on Nov. 28, barring any delays or if Trump decides to settle the case.
While presidents enjoy immunity from lawsuits arising from their official duties, the U.S. Supreme Court has held that this shield does not extend to acts alleged to have taken place prior to taking office. The 1997 ruling came in the sexual harassment lawsuit filed against President Bill Clinton by Paula Jones, which was settled before it went to trial.
Lawyers said they could think of no similar situation like the one now involving Trump.
"I'm certain there is nothing comparable to this," said Alan Dershowitz, professor emeritus at Harvard Law School.
Lawyers for both Trump and the plaintiffs declined to comment on Wednesday.
Dershowitz said the Supreme Court also held that a case cannot be delayed just because the defendant is president, though judges are still free to grant reasonable delays to any party.

Education Philosophy and political theory
Alma mater Colorado College
London School of Economics
Occupation Public policy analyst
Known for Climate change denial[1][2][3]
Myron Ebell is an absolute piece of trash and is possibly the most bought-out, dishonest scum to ever comment on climate change. He serves as the Director of Global Warming and International Environmental Policy at the Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI). He is also the chairman of the Cooler Heads Coalition. In September 2016 he was appointed by President-elect Donald Trump to lead his transition team for the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA).[4] He is known for being a climate change denier.[4][3]
Education Edit
Ebell grew up on a 2,000-acre cattle ranch in Oregon.[5] He graduated from Colorado College with a B.A. and obtained an M.Sc. after his parents sent his beyond-privileged, white self to the London School of Economics.[6] He did graduate work at the University of California at San Diego and at Peterhouse College, Cambridge University.[6]

I was absolutely certain Trump would go nowhere in the primary.TerryB wrote:I thought everyone in that other thread was sure HRC was going to win.

I was absolutely certain that the party would find a way to give the nomination to someone else.
I was absolutely certain he would lose last night, up until about 9:00 when I realized that the Democratic Party hack who was brought onto the BBC was lying to himself that it wasn't really that close in Virgina, Florida, and North Carolina.
I hope I was also wrong about how bad he will be.
OTOH, I always thought the Hitler comparisons went too far. I hope I wasn't wrong about that.

Somebody said Paul Ryan is the dog who just caught up to the car. Easy to have "repeal Obamacare" votes when you know they won't pass, and when you know you aren't really taking insurance away from 20M mostly blue-collar Americans.
The closest I've come to understand from pro-Trump people who aren't bonkers is:
1. He doesn't really want to build a wall.
2. He doesn't really want to ban Muslim immigration.
3. He doesn't really want to jail Clinton.
4. He doesn't want the history's biggest tax cut.
5. He won't really advocate war crimes.
6. He won't really play ball with Putin's agenda.
The bonkers people want & expect all that except 4 & 6. Ryan and Trump from a policy standpoint aren't in the same party. The evangelicals, laissez-faire business folks, white working class, white nationalists, and establishment have a weird coalition that won't agree on legislative agenda. The GOP can't rely on hating Obama or Clinton now. I don't see how they don't end up selling out most of these people, and he can't afford to lose the white non-educateds, so it'll be curious to see what "conservative" policies get put in place, particularly from an economic perspective. So far it sounds like Trump wants a quack on EPA transition, and an ex-Goldman Sachs exec as Treasury Secretary. We'll see how it goes. We need a functioning conservative party, which we would not have gotten with Hillary as POTUS.

I'm not sure we'll get it now, either. We need a functioning conservative party, which we would not have gotten with Hillary as POTUS.
I hope after the crying and finger pointing, the democrats step back, take inventory, and adjust some things.
The republicans should do the same, but I'm afraid they might think they won last night, and not bother.

All those protestors should lose their right to vote anymore. They are not protesting an unjust bill, they are bitching because their candidate lost.

The Reagan coalition is still working just fine-- they ran separate from Trump in legislative and gubernatorial elections and still made the pickups that matter.Grandpa's Spells wrote: The evangelicals, laissez-faire business folks, white working class, white nationalists, and establishment have a weird coalition that won't agree on legislative agenda.

HehIm hoping he resets to his factory settings as president.
I'm at the airport on my way to the wedding, where I am sure my mom is waiting to rub my nose in the election. She sent a big old celebratory text Wednesday morning. Her Facebook timeline is burning it up!
It is creeping my daughter out that her mom happilly voted for someone who brags about sexually assaulting women. She's getting an education in human nature. It had to happen.

I also look forward to Trump and Rand Paul getting in fights through the media while McConnell tries in vain to get them to shut up.

my note was intended to suggest that protests might reflect the "thwarting of the popular will." if trump had won the popular vote, but not the electoral, do you imagine his supporters have remained quiet? or might the word "rigged" be bandied about?
but yeah, protesting at this point seems like a futile endeavor.
