I believe the children are the future

teach them well and let them lead the way
Hampshire College respects all the feedback on our decision to remove the flag from our college flagpole for a period of time as our campus discusses what the flag represents to all members of our community. This decision is not and was never a commentary on the presidential election; our goal is to make this discussion a learning opportunity by giving voice to the range of viewpoints on campus across cultures, and hopefully find common ground. This is not a campus-wide ban as some media have mistakenly reported, campus members are free to individually display their own flags; this only pertains to our flagpole. As the College closes for Thanksgiving, our social media staff are on holiday break and are unable to respond to questions and to ensure posts adhere to community standards. As a result, we are suspending FB Comments through the Thanksgiving break. Emails may be sent to [email protected].
On Veterans Day, someone removed the flag and burned it.

Loyola University Maryland is facing backlash after administrators tried to get students to change an "America"-themed senior event.

The theme of the event, “Party in the U.S.A,” was chosen months ago for an annual costume party for seniors that happened on Friday. While the event went on as planned, it wasn't without controversy.

After the election, some Loyola administrators thought the party could end up dividing students and urged the student government to change the theme.
Md. university asked students to change plans for America-themed senior party

"Prior to the event, Loyola leadership contacted the Loyola Student Government Association (SGA) after learning some students and faculty expressed concern that there would be costumes that would be offensive--especially troubling at a time when so many are feeling anxious and uncertain," said Loyola University Maryland Nick Alexopulos in a statement.

He also said administrators contacted SGA to recommend reconsidering the timing of the theme "and if they chose to keep the theme, consider a plan to ensure it would be welcoming to all in attendance."

I don't have a lot of experience with vampires, but I have hunted werewolves. I shot one once, but by the time I got to it, it had turned back into my neighbor's dog.

I didn't know they were that shiny. Goddamn.
One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.

The Student Loan Bubble will lead to actual large scale political violence.

I take the entire premise of this thread back. These kids are being screwed so hard they can be forgiven for this. Damn

Yeah. It isn't the kids. It actually is The System. It makes them debt slaves and steals their minds.

I think this type of university, and there are tons of them across the US, provide an important service to the 1%. It sets the table for their children to establish their own lifelong relationships with the scions of their social and economic strata. It allows them to protect their eliteness without the connections or accomplishments that would get them into a payday school like MIT or Harvard.

There's a reason beyond book learning that the average kid attending schools like this don't attend Fitchburg State 60 miles down the road. Don't want Poppy and Thurston Howell IV getting too close to the working class and bourgeoisie. $250,000 to protect the gold lined nest - it's a bargain!

It's this cool circular structure made out of white marble. It's got this layout to it, with slanting walls and a big semicircle, where the first time I saw it I have to admit that I thought I'd love to hit it with a skateboard from my youthful days last century.

Sure enough someone did just that, leaving wheel marks on the clean granite. Uproar followed for desecrating the monument, of course. But I wonder what sort of guy LT Murphy was, since I never met him. He may have been an X-games kind of SEAL, who would have appreciated a massive 30' edge grind around the rim of his monument, and all of the blood spilled by the guys who tried and failed. They might have called it "the Murph".

Anyway, the granite cleaned up nicely - no harm no foul. Thousands walk by it every day. Its a beloved site on campus.
