If normal process follows, trump's approval ratings will have peaked at...what...40%? And then start their descent downward. It's like a limbo contest.
But if he says he's going to push for a 'moonshot' back to the moon to build a lunar base, I'll support the little-handed fella.

Are you suggesting this because Melania borrowed a dress from Jackie Kennedy for the inauguration, or have you heard something I haven't about a Newt Gingrich appointment?nafod wrote:But if he says he's going to push for a 'moonshot' back to the moon to build a lunar base, I'll support the little-handed fella.

No, I'm just a space/engineering buff. Mars is too hard. Moon's right there. We can make NASA great again.Pinky wrote:Are you suggesting this because Melania borrowed a dress from Jackie Kennedy for the inauguration, or have you heard something I haven't about a Newt Gingrich appointment?nafod wrote:But if he says he's going to push for a 'moonshot' back to the moon to build a lunar base, I'll support the little-handed fella.

To what end, and what could government space programs do that the private sector can't?nafod wrote:No, I'm just a space/engineering buff. Mars is too hard. Moon's right there. Fund it. I'd be all for contracting out to Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos.Turdacious wrote:To what end, and what could government space programs do that the private sector can't?nafod wrote:No, I'm just a space/engineering buff. The space station is cool, but it's like Columbus anchoring off the coast after having been to the new world. Drop it out of the sky, and get to the moon.
It'd be international, so we wouldn't carry for the full prices.

That's silly. Why do that when stealing it from the Norks is cheaper and easier?nafod wrote:Fund it. No way our space program before it was sacrificed to Shuttles and Diversity could have been done via private enterprise.Turdacious wrote:To what end, and what could government space programs do that the private sector can't?nafod wrote:No, I'm just a space/engineering buff. According to Robert Zubrin, Mars is not too hard. His book is interesting.nafod wrote:Mars is too hard. Moon's right there.

About 15 years ago I met him in the line for free beer at the World Space Congress in Houston. He was the short guy behind me talking about Mars.JimZipCode wrote:According to Robert Zubrin, Mars is not too hard. His book is interesting.nafod wrote:Mars is too hard. Moon's right there.
The cycle time for getting to the moon and back is so much shorter and we'd be able to see a base from Earth with telescopes. It would be real. Leave Mars to the Mormons. Just need to figure how to get God to tell them to go there. They've got the money.

You can't find a more pro space guy than me. But I won't pretend NASA is trying to go to space anymore. Or that it is anything but a diversity project.Shafpocalypse Now wrote:benny doesn't like NASA because he thought it was short for "Nevada Anal Sex Association" when he was riding around looking like a Spanish imbecile on his three wheeled bicycle

Manned space, probably. But unmanned? NASA's killing it.bennyonesix wrote:You can't find a more pro space guy than me. But I won't pretend NASA is trying to go to space anymore. I mean, what has the space station done that is interesting? Meanwhile, rovers on Mars, Cassini at Saturn, fuck yeah at Pluto, Ceres, and Mercury. Hubble space telescope, anyone? If the next space telescope doesn't blow up on the pad or need reading glasses it will see shit that will buh-low our minds.
