One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.

Such hate. I wonder about you guys.
Do you hate Ailes because he created Fox or because he sexually harassed some of his employees? Or...?

he was a 70-yr-old toad lookalike using his position to coerce sex out of his female employees. the blistering flames should lick his shriveled balls forever.
his "news" operation is an evangelical crusade of divisiveness and conflict.
he wife said he was a "loving husband," though.

I hate Ailes because I feel the journalism he fostered is often dishonest, blatantly biased and pandering. The fact that he harassed women and presided over a culture of such harassment doesn't endear him to me either.johno wrote:Such hate. I wonder about you guys.

On the other hand, I have to say he did a superb job identifying an audience and building a network. He was brilliant in that regard.

i simply noted that there was an underlying reason for fidel's rise to power: the tyrrany of batista.

This is what puzzles me. For example, I might think that Arianna Huffington's journalism is often dishonest, biased, and pandering. And I feel similarly about ex-Pres. Obama's politics. But I wouldn't post with glee if either one died.
I try to save that shit for truly evil people. Example: if Roman Polanski, child rapist, dies a horrible death, I might celebrate a little bit. Or Fidel, I might celebrate a lot. Assad, a lot. But, Huffington? Or some other leftist commentator?
*****
As for Ailes and journalism - I think a lot of people conflate Fox reporting with Fox commentary. Brett Baier, Shepard Smith, and Greta VanSusteren (when she was still there) were reporters and I think they were as fair as the best in the mainstream media.
I think you guys really hate Fox commentators like O'Reilly (now gone), Hannity, and Tucker Carlson. Along with Rush Limbaugh on talk radio, they emphasized stories and gave voice to viewpoints that unseated the mainstream media as the sole voice of the American public. The oligopoly is permanently destroyed and Ailes played a large role in that.
How dare he?

Agreed. For the most part. I'm watching Fox now, a daytime talk show, Fox Specialists, four people shouting angrily about the mainstream media. Ignoring news CNN is reporting from NYT.johno wrote:seeahill wrote:I hate Ailes because I feel the journalism he fostered is often dishonest, blatantly biased and pandering.johno wrote:Such hate. your basic tyrant: harrassment, intimidation, spying, co-erced sex.johno wrote:So he drugged & raped women? Was that the accusation?nafod wrote:Sexual harassment and assault. He was one creepy Bill Cosby-level dude.johno wrote:Such hate. I wonder about you guys.

johno's signature is yeats. for this thread, he may be invoking donne: "no man is an island."
he's employing paradox, using an anti-fox news tactic to get us to examine our attitudes toward the fox news asshole in chief.
i can respect that.
it's better than turd's defense: "but your honor, lots of vandals have looted and pillaged before i ever did."

Re: roger ailes now burns in hell
I don't think Ailes did as much of a favor to conservatism as he is given credit for. There was no Fox News during the Reagan era, and he did alright.
I visit the FoxNews website and take a sampling of the network, and it mostly seems to be about hating the left. Back when repubs and conservatives were out of power, I get it. Loyal opposition. But the liberals are pretty much a party in exile, with conservatives holding executive, legislative, and judicial at the national level and most of the slots at the state level. Yet you read or watch Fox and it is all blah, blah, blah Dems, Schumer, Hillary, blah, blah, blah, deep state alt-left, blah, blah, blah, as if the conservatives didn't hold all of the levers of power. An echo of current republicans, who can complain but not govern.
