No, just Barr and Trump
What to make of the election?

Re: What to make of the election?
Wait, so Barr's DOJ brought charges against these 13 Russians just so Barr's DOJ could drop charges against these 13 Russians? That's amazing.

It wasn't Barr's DOJ when charges were filed.

Ah my bad, it was the OTHER guy you said was a Trump stooge, Sessions.

I don't know, man. Sessions is currently campaigning for his seat and running specifically on being a Trump ally. Even as Trump continues to throw him under the bus every chance he gets. That's a seriously brown nose.
Maybe Sessions and Barr can compare the floral notes and undertone of currants in Trump's flatulence.

Precisely this. I can't fathom the mental gymnastics you guys are doing to make this contradiction work.Alfred_E._Neuman wrote: ↑Wed Mar 18, 2020 11:41 pmI don't know, man. Sessions recused himself from Russia matters, which is why he was replaced.

Re: What to make of the election?
Which is your way of dodging the basic facts of the matter by focusing on extraneous bullshit. The DOJ says the reasons that they are dropping the charges are that they do not have access to the accused--because Russia does not extradite--and that to pursue the charges would reveal sensitive sources and means. Both of these facts were known when the charges were concocted, and neither was subject to change. Any sane person looking at that can only conclude that the charges were brought in the first place for domestic political purposes.

Re: What to make of the election?
I wouldn't say I trust the DOJ, it's just that it's the only available information.

Not sure why, but for some reason Senator Burr (R - NC) telling the big bucks donors back in February that the virus is a lot worse than is publicly known, and then selling off $1.5M of his stock in advance of the crash, really REALLY pisses me off. More than normal.

I'm dollar cost averaging and in it to stay, so it is not about me.
But all of the Trump supporters listening to Fox News "It's a hoax" and Trump "15 cases, 1 soon" but then seeing Burr cashing out in advance, using his intel to get ahead while Kramer is encouraging those same supporters to buy the dip (buy Burr's stocks). It legitimately makes me ill to see it.

A bit more
Here's what Burr was telling people that paid to hear it.On Feb. 27, when the United States had 15 confirmed cases of COVID-19, President Trump was tamping down fears and suggesting that the virus could be seasonal.
"It's going to disappear. One day, it's like a miracle. It will disappear," the president said then, before adding, "it could get worse before it gets better. It could maybe go away. We'll see what happens."
On that same day, Burr attended a luncheon held at a social club called the Capitol Hill Club. And he delivered a much more alarming message.
"There's one thing that I can tell you about this: It is much more aggressive in its transmission than anything that we have seen in recent history," he said, according to a secret recording of the remarks obtained by NPR. "It is probably more akin to the 1918 pandemic."
"Every company should be cognizant of the fact that you may have to alter your travel. You may have to look at your employees and judge whether the trip they're making to Europe is essential or whether it can be done on video conference. Why risk it?" Burr said.
"There will be, I'm sure, times that communities, probably some in North Carolina, have a transmission rate where they say, 'Let's close schools for two weeks. Everybody stay home,' " he said.
And Burr invoked the possibility that the military might be mobilized to combat the coronavirus. Only now, three weeks later, is the public learning of that prospect.
"We're going to send a military hospital there; it's going to be in tents and going to be set up on the ground somewhere," Burr said at the luncheon. "It's going to be a decision the president and DOD make. And we're going to have medical professionals supplemented by local staff to treat the people that need treatment."

Re: What to make of the election?
But of course...
The Senate’s newest member sold off seven figures worth of stock holdings in the days and weeks after a private, all-senators meeting on the novel coronavirus that subsequently hammered U.S. equities.
Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-GA) reported the first sale of stock jointly owned by her and her husband on Jan. 24, the very day that her committee, the Senate Health Committee, hosted a private, all-senators briefing from administration officials, including the CDC director and Anthony Fauci, the head of the National Institutes of Health of the United States, on the coronavirus.
...It was the first of 29 stock transactions that Loeffler and her husband made through mid-February, all but two of which were sales. One of Loeffler’s two purchases was stock worth between $100,000 and $250,000 in Citrix, a technology company that offers teleworking software...

LOL at quoting Little Lord Fauntleroy-- there are likely other reasons that lap dog's calling for Burr's head.

For this to be insider trading, it would require inside knowledge that wasn't available to the general public. The risk of COVID-19 was well known among public health pros, and they haven't been shy about publicizing it-- and this was happening before Burr's stock sale.
And the media reporting about Burr's stock sale are overstating his net worth.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/19/us/p ... virus.htmlThree other senators also sold major holdings around the time Mr. Burr did, according to the disclosure records: Dianne Feinstein, Democrat of California, who is also a member of the Intelligence Committee; James M. Inhofe, Republican of Oklahoma; and Kelly Loeffler, Republican of Georgia.
Senate logic: it’s not corrupt when we all do it.

So by overstating his net worth, they were minimizing the extent that he was moving his net worth away from risk based on classified intel?Turdacious wrote: ↑Fri Mar 20, 2020 4:58 am And the media reporting about Burr's stock sale are overstating his net worth.

He (and the other 4 senators) didn't tell their constituents, the people they work for, to move their money to save havens.

You're assuming that the 'classified intel' he received is better than what was publicly available. The pandemic potential of COVID19 is not a secret, nor is the US lack of preparedness for a major pandemic. There's no indication that Burr had any inside information as he sold the stocks and issued the private warnings.
Besides, what Burr did was for his personal gain; what Feinstein and Loeffler did may have benefited other wealthy people in position to benefit from the inside knowledge-- that's much worse. Not that it will matter much-- Feinstein will have that seat until she decides she doesn't want it, and Loeffler was unlikely to win the GOP primary even before this story came out.

The GA bitch in the same briefing also bought stock in pharma and telecommuting tech after dumping. She'd made no other trades since her election, and said everything was going to be fine and this was overblown.
Feinstein's assets were in a blind trust, so unless the blind trust and her are in some kind of conspiracy, that's a big nope.
