How are we feeling about rioters this week?

Re: How are we feeling about rioters this week?
I'm glad when Trump was elected in 2016 I told myself -- after a few days of empty despair about how half the US was conned by this sociopathic compulsive liar -- that "no matter how bad I think it's gonna be, it'll be worse."
And that includes the sad fact that otherwise rational, good, people continue to fail to see through his bullshit.
As if somehow being "Democrat" or "Republican" or "White" or "Black" or "Whatever" means you CANNOT be a terrible person.
Trump is a thoroughly horrid human being. 12 more days.

Re: How are we feeling about rioters this week?
What standard are you speaking about? The standard that armed mobs are not supposed to be allowed into the capitol? I wouldn't exactly say that this is a standard I am making up. This summer showed very clearly that D.C. is more than capable of preparing for and controlling large, aggressive crowds yet for some reason (?????) they just were not able to or prepared to do this for the insurrectionists.Fat Cat wrote: ↑Sat Jan 09, 2021 1:32 amYou don't have a point. You lost your chance to have a point when you don't hold both sides to the same standard. Keep telling yourself you're an iconoclast as you join Apple, Google, Facebook, Instagram, Amazon, CNN, MSNBC, both political parties, the entire entertainment complex, etc. You're really fighting the power now LMAO.newguy wrote: ↑Sat Jan 09, 2021 12:45 am Usually you are more precise and pointed. I feel this one was a bit sloppy compared to your lofty standards.
My point holds. You showed a picture of protests at the white house. Show me any BLM protestor that made it into the white house and was politely escorted out. Or the capitol building.
I am not talking about downtown santa monica. I'm not talking about officer friendly kneeling for a photo op while his cronies are pellet gunning moms and their teen girls in Indianapolis.
This is the fucking capitol building. No BLM protestor makes it in there. No BLM protestor makes it onto whitehouse grounds. EVER. Because no one is supposed to be able to make it onto the grounds or into the chambers. Let alone an armed unruly group.
But during the civil war 2.0 armed fuckers walk in and sit at congressional members desks???? They walk around with the podium?
What the fuck.
The continued "but thems" But the BLM....but anti-fa.....but hilary go nowhere. There were peaceful protests this summer. There were awful and uncalled for riots this summer.
Those have absolutely nothing to do with a continued stream of lies regarding the legitimacy of this election leading to a violent outpouring where people are dead.

The Left and Big Tech are going to push an effort to silence dangerous right wingers now. When people push huge lies it's tempting to just shut them up, I know. But I have 2 predictions:
1. The silencing will be massively heavy handed and over-reaching.
2. The left will see no way this could possibly have negative consequences down the road.
Because in the end Trump didn't cause a loss of faith in our political class, he was enabled by it.

Haven't confirmed it but i read that the D.C. mayor requested a light police presence "to avoid inflaming tensions". If true, a strategic error.

Re: How are we feeling about rioters this week?
Definitely some planning failures. It’s not like Trump hadn’t been broadcasting his intent for weeks.
The capitol police, a force whose main job is to protect the capital, has near 2000 officers and a monster budget, half a billion dollars.
They should have gone full summer WH protests on them and clubbed the rioters like seal pups, shot them in the face with rubber bullets and pepper balls, and flexi-cuffed thousands.
At the same time, someone even with just a lighter and a pile of papers and the whole thing could have been orders of magnitude more disastrous. Imagine smoke pouring out of the Capital on live TV. Emptying a magazine into the police? Those homemade bombs? The ingredients were all there.
Can you imagine a similar mob rambling through the White House? The Supreme Court? Holy shit.
It was a close run thing, as bad as it was.
My prediction, the house impeaches Trump. Then McConnell holds a vote over Trump’s head to keep him in line until he’s out of the office.
Don’t believe everything you think.

Re: How are we feeling about rioters this week?
Not necessarily an error on Mayor Bowsers part. Clashes between right and left wing protesters have been ongoing at a low level for months with both sides antagonizing. If her focus was on preventing looting and violence on the vicinity of BLM plaza (where most businesses are still boarded up) that would seem to be the most likely scenario. Also, other than this latest protest, things haven’t gotten ugly during the day for months. Her priority should be the city rather than capital property.
I could be giving her too much credit, but the DC PoPo has been handling things pretty well the last few months (all things considered).

Re: How are we feeling about rioters this week?
I'm not sure that is the case. "People" are very unpredictable, easily swayed, etc. Our founding Fathers, having been through the revolution, were well aware of how things work at the population level and how fragile democracy can be. The events during the French revolution were a clear warning sign to the them.Schlegel wrote: ↑Sat Jan 09, 2021 12:37 pm The Left and Big Tech are going to push an effort to silence dangerous right wingers now. The traditions that were built over 100s of years....conciliation speeches, conceding, smooth transitions of power, all those things are safeguards to ensure that democracy continues and people have faith in the process and the government.
Donald Trump has spent 4 years eroding the confidence people have in our government and our systems. From attacks on the press to attacks on the democrats to attacks on the process itself.
The moment he refused to concede, the moment he even refused the possibility of concession, he started a rolling ball and it's going to be one that is tough to recover from.
I have no doubt that if he had used normal, rational talk, this would have been different.
Fairly soon he will be gone.

Trump’s Capitol Insurrection was basically PizzaGate x 10,000. Equally based on bullshit.

Probably wasn't much of a steal.
Trump probably lost because of an aggressive "Get out the Vote" effort by.... Big Tech. They targeted this effort into Democratic Party strong areas.
"This year, left-leaning donors Mark Zuckerberg and wife Priscilla Chan gave $350 million to an allegedly “nonpartisan” nonprofit, the Center for Tech and Civic Life (CTCL), which in turn re-granted the funds to thousands of governmental election officials around the country to “help” them conduct the 2020 election."

"In Philadelphia and the surrounding urban counties that received millions of dollars in CLTC grants, turnout exploded.
The plan worked.
In case you still don’t follow: Hundreds of millions of private charitable dollars flowed into key urban county election offices in battleground states. The same private philanthropic largess did not reach red counties. Urban counties were able to revolutionize government election offices into Joe Biden turnout machines."

How the fuck did a bunch of unarmed people get into the capital? Where were the Capital Police?
The Democrats are going to lecture us that we need more "gun safety", that the Police will protect us. If 2020 taught us anything it is that the Police are never around when you need them. Which is why many more people bought guns for the first time.

This one didn't take a pulitzer winning investigation from the New York Times. Even TMZ is reporting it.

Did I accidentally click on the LGBTQ forum? There’s nothing wrong with an American Bastille Day.

I don't think there's anything wrong with an American Bastille Day either. But AT LEAST go up there looking to fight for shit that actually matters. These ass clowns actually believe a BOLD FACED LIE that there was voter fraud because Donald Trump and his crew of misfits simply tells them it's so. LMAO. They deserve to get shit hammered just for believing the biggest bunch of lies since the Abrahamic religions.
You want to march on Washington because 70+ % of everyone in the Nation wants universal health care, and it won't even make it to a vote on the fucking floor of Congress because they've all been bought by the insurance and pharmaceutical companies? March away.
You want to march on Washington because they saw fit to give the wealthiest individuals who have ever existed a $1.2 Trillion tax break while the average person can't cover a $600 emergency? March away.
You want to march on Washington because we cut corporations tax deals that should make a normal person furious? Google, Amazon, Apple can hide enough cash and jump through enough loopholes that they don't pay anything at the end of the year? Give me a fucking break. March away.
You want to march on Washington because they passed a pandemic relief bill that did JACK FUCKING SHIT for the average person who's now out of work, but gave another huge bonus to the wealthiest individuals who have ever existed and spread more "Democracy" around the world at the business end of bombs? March away.
You want to march on Washington because we piss away $2 billion every single day on a military industrial complex that does NOTHING but pad bank accounts for defense contractors at our expense, all while making more enemies by the hour? March away.
But to get riled up over over anything Donald Trump, a failed NY real estate grifter game show host says? Get fucking real.
It's high time both sides realized that the actual rulers of this joint are laughing their fucking asses off at BLM/Antifa fighting QAnon/Proud Boys/Insert loony right winger group. Gives them plenty of cover while they perpetrate the heist. The last thing the Corporatocracy wants is for both sides to realize they're being played against each other. It's like god damned pro wrestling. They've convinced people to take sides on their theatrics while they laugh at our stupidity when they go out to dinner together that night to plan the next show.
This whole fucking thing is insane.

Orange man IS bad. Very very bad. It doesn't take a detailed evil plan, just a complete disregard for anyone else's well-being.
By the way the conclusions of the article on the previous page are essentially this: We don't like outsiders. We don't like the fact that our education and job skills have not kept us competitive in the job market (that's what happens when you defund education). We want to be offensive and unapologetic (extreme PC annoys everyone, even us libtards. However, being respectful of others is not actually hard. Its that whole "do unto others" rule that jesus was always ranting about . And having conversations about things that make you uncomfortable makes everyone, even you, feel and act better.)

No doubt. The inability of the Left to admit to its own problems is what will keep a lot of real progress from being made in this country. But the the politicians don't WANT to address those problems.Shafpocalypse Now wrote: ↑Sun Jan 10, 2021 10:41 pm Nice Alfred.

Here's how I see it. Both the average pissed person on the left and the average pissed person on the right have the same root cause to their problems: they have been marginalized and are having a harder and harder time having their basic needs met.
The BLM/Antifa left sees generations of oppression, wage suppression, a corporate justice system that feeds on full prison-for-profit, a crippling for profit healthcare system that will have them deciding between food for the week and taking a sick kid to the doctor. They have been steered toward blaming the white power structure, so they lash out at that.
The QAnon/Proud Boy right sees generations of job loss due to globalization, wage suppression, the marginalization that comes with reduced economic security due to that globalization and job loss, the same crippling for profit healthcare system that is THE leading cause of bankruptcy. They have been steered toward minorities and foreigners as the cause of their perceived decline, so they lash out at that.
The real problem (in my admittedly uneducated opinion) is the Corporatocracy/Oligarchy that actually controls this country. All of our elected representatives have been bought by the corporations/billionaire to the point that it's not recoverable. Since at least the 80's they've bought legislation that lets them accumulate wealth unfettered by damn near any restrictions. They've been allowed to externalize nearly every single cost of doing business. They've suppressed living wages. They've bought subsidies so it's not only CHEAPER for them to do business, but it assures no alternative can compete because their product will have to be sold at actual (unsubsidised) cost.
Until both sides, on the grass roots level, realize the ONLY way to get this country back on track is to take back the power from the Corporatocracy/Oligarchy and use that accumulated wealth to provide the people with what they need to thrive, we're screwed.
I don't have a lot of experience with vampires, but I have hunted werewolves. I shot one once, but by the time I got to it, it had turned back into my neighbor's dog.
