Re: Beer!!!
I had a couple of my US Marshal Friends over last night. Both couldn't handle the case of Red Hook IPA Long Hammer I had; they said it was too bitter. I couldn't stop laughing at them, because I consider Long Hammer to be a mellow IPA.
Both of them wouldn't touch my home brew porter, either.
I'm going to be making 10 gallons of IPA tomorrow with my brother which will require driving over the the Home Brew Mart/Ballast Point Brewery. Ballast Point Brewery makes a double IPA that will knock your socks off. Their Rocktoberfest lager is fuck to die for.

Been drinking this stuff this weekend. One of me new faves for sure. Good stuff if you're a hophead.

Re: Beer!!!
Tried a bit of all four purchased yesterday. Bell's Lager of the Lake is, hands down, my preferred brew of the lot. Medium-bodied lager, crisp and nicely hopped. It's not nearly as malty as, say Brooklyn Lager, but has substantial flavor. Very refreshing in the 100+ heat.

Re: Beer!!!
Bells is definately a great brewery. I tried everything they had during my 1 trip to Mi. If you have it in your area you have to try dogfish head 90 min ipa or just about anything they make. Another really good one is victory hop devil ipa out of maryland

BGE will be in full effect tomorrow. Beers to accompany the spread will include Scrimshaw Pilsner, Hoppy Otter IPA and some TBD ESB.
Joey: don't ever post here again until you introduce yourself properly. Had some DFH Santo Palo Brown Ale last night, very nice stuff.

Re: Beer!!!
AWESOME BEER = Ballast Point Dorado Double IPA
Holy shit, I've found the holy grail beer! This is by far the best fucking IPA I've ever had!
If given the choice of fucking Elizabeth Shue (the 1980/90 Shue) while she's tied down to a Maytag and drinking this beer, well I'd fuck Elizabeth Shue (Duhhhh!), but I might be tempted to ask how much Ballast Point Dorado I get to drink.
BTW- They don't sell this in stores. You're going to have to visit the two brewery sites in San Diego to get a taste. Too Fucking bad bitchos.

Re: Beer!!!
Birra Moretti La Rossa
This is a Boch beer. I had a couple of these while in Chicago on business. I wasn't expecting much, but took a chance on this beer, because I refuse to drink the trash AB and Miller call beer. I'm glad I did; very pleasant smooth taste for a dark beer. It finishes with a chocolate tatse.
I was so pleased I'll probably do an internet search to find a vendor that will send me some, since my local BevMo doesn't sell it.

Re: Beer!!!
Some regionals to try if you're ever in the area:
Southeast -
Terrapin Beer's Big Hoppy Monster and Wake 'N' Bake Coffee Oatmeal Imperial Stout. The Big Hoppy Monster is just right for a hop head. Plenty of citrusy hop flavor without being bitter. Just awesome.
Wake 'N' Bake Coffee Oatmeal Imperial Stout is the best stout/porter I've had outside of Oskar Blues Ten Fidy stout. Super deep chocolate flavor with a kick of Jittery Joe's coffee.
Northwest -
Boundary Bay IPA. BB is my local brewery and they have the best IPA I've had in the PNW with the possible exception of the Sleeping Lady brewery in Alaska. And that's saying a something. They bootle their IPA and Scotch Ale, but the distribution is super local.
Northeast -
any and everything at the Alchemist Brewery in Waterburry Vermont.

Re: Beer!!!
Innes and Gunn Oak Aged Beer.
Aged in old whiskey barrels and at 6.6% it's got quite the kick but tastes
sweet and not at all like a strong beer but still has flavour
Highly recomended!

Re: Beer!!!
Deschutes Hop Trip Ale:
Supposedly, there's a hop farm not far from the Deschutes brewery, and when the hop crop comes in they give Deschutes a call. They get in the truck and load up on fresh hops and immediately bring it back and dump it in a batch of Hop Trip Ale. Litterally 3 hours from vine to wort.
Got it on tap at a local pub, and have to say it's really good. Not as overpowering with hop bitterness as some of the harsher IPAs brewed around here. And it had a great citrus flavor from the fresh hops.
Highly recomended if you can get Deschutes beers.

Six Points Bengali Tiger IPA. Delicious. Perfect balance between the hop bite and the malt.

Re: Beer!!!
Budweiser-American Ale-I'll try any beer once; and once was enough with this beer. Way to mellow for my taste, not as bad as the mainstream trash they brew, but I wasn't impressed.
I still have 5 more bottles left (I never give away beer) so maybe I'll change my mind. Sometimes you need to try a beer a couple of times for it to grows on you.
Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale- damn fine brew bitchos. This one gets the BatBoy seal of approval. Nice high alcohol content; I'm guessing around 6%. I raped and pillaged a 12 pack of this excellent brew on Halloween.

If you were man enough to buy them, you're man enough to drink them! That's why you only buy a tester six pack when trying a new beer.
Just think, across the fruited plains of the US of A a bunch sad sacks are sitting around drinking this new Budweiser piss and they think it's awesome; we fucking now better. Consider finishing the six pack as penance.

Re: Beer!!!
I think the mass produced American pilsner's aren't bad for thirst quenching while working outside on a hot day...maybe roofing, or ditch digging, etc...I mean, drinking a Bud Light is better than drinking a fucking Gatorade, right?
Re: Beer!!!
Beer is good for quenching the thirst of the person who's going to get me my whiskey.

Re: Beer!!!
Listen, if you like to drink that shit; it's your damn money, drink away. However, in my opinion, you might as well drinking piss. American pilsners are shit beers, made for sad sack alcoholics that think drinking beer requires drinking 2 cases in a night; or are pussies that can't handle real fucking beer. Bud, Miller etc formulate their beers so that even teeniboppers and women can drink them.Shaf wrote:I think the mass produced American pilsner's aren't bad for thirst quenching while working outside on a hot day...maybe roofing, or ditch digging, etc...I mean, drinking a Bud Light is better than drinking a fucking Gatorade, right?
Real Beer= Hops, Malted Barley (sometimes Malted wheat), water, and yeast. Corn and rice are fillers that offer nothing to a beer other than cutting the cost.
But to answer your question; would I pick an ice cold Bud over gatorade on a hot fucking day? Dude, I may be a beer snob, but I'm not stupid.

Re: Beer!!!
I was kidding. I love it all. If I had to choose one, really good sake makes me very happy, and is a nice middle ground between beer and liquor. That said, a cold beer or a glass of whiskey is also wonderful, and I've been known to drink ghetto grappa and palm wine out of plastic jugs.

I've worked hard to aquire a taste for top shelf scotch and Irish Whiskey, but my inner white trash red neck stills likes his whiskey made by Jack Daniels.
As for sake, my brother japanese father inlaw hooked me the fuck up. I have at least 3 litters of the stuff sitting in my frig.

LOL, It's his fucking life; He almost weighs 300 lbs, you go tell him what to do!Fat Cat wrote:What kinda sake is it? Wait, you let your brother marry a Jap?
I shit you not, one of younger brother's jap clients is a Sumo Dojo sponsor. is client has tried on several occations to get my brother to do Sumo. My brother is on the short side for 300lbs, but he has a low center of gravity, is thick and has great bone mass. Running into him is like hitting a brick wall.
On the up side I have a great source for top flight Jap Judogis.
I'll look up the Sake when I get home. I was told it wasn't the serve warm style of sake, but the kind that's served ice cold.
