Gracie's "Bullyproof" DVDs
This is a great set.
First DVD is a parent prep disc, then there are a few DVDs of "games" which teach some basic grappling principles while keeping fun. Then a "rules of engagement" DVD followed by a set of 33 combatives and a kidsafe DVD to teach situational awareness.
Done exceptionally well and I'm planning on taking my 6 year old daughter through it. I'm particularly impressed that the Gracie's seem to have spent quite a bit of time figuring out how to teach their art. While this seems like it should be common, anyone who's spent some time practicing fighting arts realizes that a lot of MA instructors are horrible teachers.
Anyway, this DVD should be considered by anyone who has kids.

LOL, I have the opposite problem I need to teach my boy to chill the fuck out. Apparently by crossing my Highland heritage with Serbian blood I have created an attack dog.

I will be getting this. Sounds very interesting and useful. Does one need a MA background to use this? I would like to use this dvd with my 2 daughters as well as my son.
Mak, my son is pretty aggressive too, which is my fault since I wrestle with him quite a bit. He actually bullies his older sisters (he's 2).

Mick,
If you have a BJJ background I'm sure it's better, but the DVDs will work for anyone with some athleticism (you roll around under your kid a lot-my daughter's a bruiser)
Mak,
the reason I like this DVD is I really want my daughter to do some kind of martial art. CMA is too slow for her, and she's quite aggressive and I'm worried she'll kick or punch someone with karate or the like. I'll probably stick with the games for a while and not teach her the combatives til I'm sure she's not gonna try and arm bar some poor kindergartener.

What's the target age range for this? My grandson is 10. Too old?

My son needs yoga.

Yoga is ranking. I'm gonna start my son off with this dvd, then on to judo/bjj and maybe some boxing or muy thai all the while with yoga sprinkled in. Will see if he wants to wrestle in high school. That is if he wants, I'm not gonna force him to do anything.

Don't let anyone hit him in the head, even with headgear.Mickey O'neil wrote:maybe some boxing or muy thai

Absolutely. I argue this with retard parents all the time who want their faggot kids to toughen up but don't want him to wrestle (usually 'cause it's "gay"). They usually end up at some lame Krav Maga or Karate studio fagging around though because the good boxing gyms have too many Mexicans.Fat Cat wrote: Don't let anyone hit him in the head, even with headgear.
Every man I know who boxed extensively while still in his teens is some sort of crazy today.

Indeed. I am well aware of the studies of taking blows to the head from boxing/striking.

I need to revise my opinion on this product.
It is the single best MA instructional DVD I have ever seen. Off the top of my head, I'm frankly having trouble coming up with an instructional DVD in any topic that is better. It's now clear to me how the Gracies changed martial arts in the late 20th century. There are some smart mofo's in that family.
My daughter LOVES the games inthe DVD. I'm actually using some of the teaching techniques in the first DVD to teach Hailey non-MA things.
This isa fucking great DVD set and simply great for parents.

Yeah, if you think about it, the Gracies greatest achievement was getting that many kids into the same thing. Helio Gracie always claimed he didn't create the martial art, but his own teaching methodology for the art.

How is this going with your daughter, SAR? I haven't bought this yet but it's still on the list.

Re: Gracie's "Bullyproof" DVDs
I'll comment:
I have done the Gracie games for almost 2 years now with very young kids. I keep it fun and light. My kids ask me to do JiuJitsu regularly.
My 7 year old daughter can do all 10 games and several of the combatives.
At such a young age I'm just thrilled to be able to play with them and do something they think is fun. They are learning, and they can do the basic games pretty well, but the fact that it's a chance to have fun with them and develop attributes that later will be foundational to basic self-defense is great IMO.

I take it you don't need to 'know' BJJ to teach this to your kids, correct?
