Re: Limey TV thread
The Prisoner-- no description is adequate, just watch it
Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy-- as good as the movie is, the series is better. Smiley's People is in my queue.
Zen-- very good, and different enough from the books to be surprising. Caterina Murino is ridiculously hot in this series.
Secret Agent/Danger Man-- pretty good once they switched to one hour episodes; got too Bondish (the Roger Moore variety) at the end
Callan-- see my other review, great anti-hero.
Torchwood-- like Dr. Who but not much fun
FWIW, I tended to ignore a lot of these shows before seeing recommendations here.

Re: Limey TV thread
Hmmmm...K.
I have a high tolerance for corny..(See Dr. Who)
Reebus- Scottish detective show. little klunky. good character development.
Prime Suspect- Dame Helen Mirren at her best.. Utterly Required.
Foyles War- WW2 era cop drama. Very decent
Midsommer Murders---so fucking british...slow as mud
George Gently- Another decent historical cop drama, I say....overall positive
Wire in the Blood- Clever dialogue, stock police psychologist drama
Cracker- the original cop psychologist drama, outstanding acting, older show, can be clunky writing.
Luther- Stringer Bell is rogue copper...great show
Merlin--pure stupid cornball good for the kiddies...meh.
Frost- Classic detective series, Jason David is a great actor
Being Human- very very corny but occasionally funny..mostly No.
Umm.....
House of Cards- EPIC REQUIRED POLITICAL DRAMA
actually added this phrase to the UK Political Lexicon.

Peep Show, an oddly fucked up British sit com, is worth watching.

Totally agree on Prime Suspect and Frost. Also loved Morse before he passed on.Blaidd Drwg wrote:Hmmmm...K.

Never got into Morse, based on your rec, I'll take another run at it.

Re: Limey TV thread
Better than Morse is Inspector Lewis, wich is the continuation of Morse.
Doctor Who
Doc Martin- My Old lady hates brits but loves Martin. This was our Saturday night show last year.
William and Mary
Sherlock- Best modern take on this ever.
Sharpe's
Downton Abby
Black's Books
Red Dwarf
I, Cladius
Rome- It was full of Brit actors at least. Best show EVER!
Other's have put some good stuff as well.

Rome and Inspector Lewis I forgot about!
Lewis is kinda slooow...Can you do Midsomer Murders? It puts me to sleep but has good dialogue and character development.

They made a US pilot that was just awful. You can find it on youtube.
I don't have a lot of experience with vampires, but I have hunted werewolves. I shot one once, but by the time I got to it, it had turned back into my neighbor's dog.
Re: Limey TV thread
They tend to fuck it up when they make US versions to Brit shows.
Life on Mars from the UK is great (as is Ashes to Ashes, it's spin off/continuation)
The US version sucked dick.
I did not even bother with the Ameican Prime Suspect. Who need's Maria Bello acting manly when you have Helen Mirren's Jane Tenison?
Just air the things on American TV. Same language, no need to Americanize it.

I'd fuck Mirren as Jane Tennison in a heartbeat...at 60? Hell...probably 70.

Re: Limey TV thread
Top Gear was my favorite TV show for a few years.
I've moved away from it — once you've seen 30 or 40, you've seen 'em all. But it still has a quality, if I'm flipping channels, there is damn near nothing more able to get me to relax and chuckle than a few mins of that show. Series 10 is the peak, as far as I'm concerned. Greatest driving road in Europe, amphibious cars, taking the microcar to the BBC offices, Botswana Special, London race, the British Leyland retrospective, history of car controls, etc.
Try to get the unabridged versions. On BBC America, they air versions that are chopped-down to fit the American TV hour with commercials. They usually chop out the news segment, and sometimes the star in the car, which makes the show lurch a little disjointedly. But even the abridged versions of series 10 are wonderful (that's what I watched).

Smiley's People-- excellent series. Brilliant bitterness from Alec Guinness and Beryl Reid.

Shit man! Who don't like Sci Fi You know? Where the cops are allways good guys who worry about the people they are sworn to protect and the law they are sworn to uphold. Where they come and get your cat out of the tree.
But you see we live in the real world and............... SHIT AIN'T LIKE THAT!
