A while back I asked folks here if anyone had these dvds. No replies about people having them, a few remembered him from books or tapes about monkey style kung fu. Also no one seemed to be able to do 10 reps of those pushups where your arms cross each other like an X.
Anyway, these dvds are great. There are five dvds for $80 or whatever. The first, for beginners has movements that would be really tough for lots of people to do. Goes over the whole body, all the joints. The other four go over regions of the body in greater detail, ie. different movements. There's interesting aspects of qi gong/taoist medical theory that are discussed throughout the various stretching routines.
He's laid back, knows what he's demonstrating, and does demonstrate you don't need to be young to be flexible. Definitely highly recommended

This would give me pause. As a teacher, I think that moves for beginners need to be accessible. they need to be scaled down so most people can just get started. If they're too tough, then IMO the training progression may not be there.Steve wrote:The first, for beginners has movements that would be really tough for lots of people to do.
But $80 for 5 DVDs is a bargain. so probably worth a look anyway.
I had heard that they were show-off vids for Zink so I stayed away. But this might change my mind. Good to have your review.

Yeah, Dave the beginner tape is tough but not inacessible.
That's where the other videos really shine. It seems he's teaching in a yoga studio and he demonstrates the moves in a progressive way. He clearly states this is a beginner version of this move, as you get better do this.... If you can't do the move he gives some modifications. He also talks about you can do this or this or this. There are some really novel stretches like doing seated splits while stretching the wrists, and if you can't do the splits go as far as you can or do what he calls the frog stretch.
I spent the bucks on Maxwell's flexibility dvd, have what ever from Sonnon, way back had the James Lew stretching tape, what Zink has made is really good. To me, it's nice to see some things I never saw before and that's what those tapes have. They're good. I imagine Zink is around 60 now, i bet he was 50 something at the time of the recording. He has things to teach that would help old guys, young guys, and closet contortionists like Hank.

Thanks for the follow up, Steve. glad to hear there's a good progression. That should make them a solid buy at that price then. Zink obviously has the skills but some people don't know how to teach it. Since he does, then that would clear up any obstacles to buying it for me.
