$40 Pavelizer substitute

Post by Hagbard »

I got me a new chinning bar last week that hooks onto the lintel without using any screws. It has a long cross bar and is advertised as being for pullups, pushups and situps. I found that if you stick it on the floor in an open doorway you can put the backs of your legs against the bar and pull just like when you have someone hold the backs of your legs. Those bitches (jandas) are hard.

Not a bad side benefit.

Ummm, I'll look around for one on the web. I bought it downstairs at the sports shop.

great link. the chick in the picture is doing it, but you put the cross bar on the opposite side of the door jamb from you, and put your feet on the other side of the bar.

Loop a JS mini band around your calves and the corner of a power rack. Scoot back to apply tension.

Voila. Janda.

Put a piece of 2x4 on the far side of the door frame and use the back of your calves or ankles to hold it up against the frame. Not as comfortable as JR's band solution, but cheaper.

I have tried jandas many ways. The biggest benefit for the Pavelizer 2, imho, was the active pulling pressure. With the original you have to do it yourself and if you can't walk and chew gum at the same time you might become neurologically confused by trying to push your feet into the bar and sit up at the same time. The JS band idea is simple and duplicates the pavelizer 2 or a training partner pulling on your calves.

I agree with JR on the use of bands for Jandas. It's also easy to vary tension just by moving forward or back, and any band that give you enough tension will work (in case you don't have an official JS band lying around).

Regardless, that's still a good chin-up bar. I have the same one.
