Physical Body 2: Competition Training and the Dangal

Post by Hank Scorpio »

I bought this after Tom Furman mentioned it was in production, having already seen the first volume of the Indian wrestling documentary. If you liked PB, you'll want to add this to your library.

It runs 90 minutes, largely of Indian men and boys, smeared with mustard oil and mounting one another. The footage of these guys in pink speedos, package hugging thongs, and what appear to be various 3rd world Underoos, should be enough to appeal to IGx zoosexuals of all stripes, even (perhaps especially) GDG. But if that's not enough, the documentary also explores the training regimens at four different Kushti akharas ,and has lengthy segments on the wrestlers' ayurvedic diet, traditional jori and gada swinging, specific mobility and warm up drills practiced, and more.

It's a fascinating look at a disappearing traditional martial art.

For people that find this subject interesting there is a book called:The wrestlers body by Joseph S Alter, published by The University of California press in 1992.Intersting read about the history, philosophy, training and diet if the wrestlers in north India.
Had forgotten that I had it.

Greco-Buddhism, sometimes spelled Graeco-Buddhism, refers to the cultural syncretism between Hellenistic culture and Buddhism, which developed between the 4th century BCE and the 5th century CE in the area covered by the Indian sub-continent, and modern Afghanistan, Pakistan and north-western border regions of modern India. It was a cultural consequence of a long chain of interactions begun by Greek forays into India from the time of Alexander the Great, carried further by the establishment of Indo-Greek rule in the area for some centuries, and extended during flourishing of the Hellenized empire of the Kushans.

The Physical Body set is great, i like the first one more but # 2 is worth a look. I was lucky and got the set for Christmas along with some nice Indian Clubs.

Lemme guess- the 'indian clubs' take batteries.

My wife said putting them together was the hardest part.
