Young Frankenstein the musical

Post by Alfred_E._Neuman »

I'm a huge Mel Brooks fan and have seen all of his movies hundreds of time. I'd been wondering how well the movie would translate into a broadway musical, and finally got to see it yesterday afternoon with the wife.

Brooks wrote all the songs and dialogue. A good chunk of the dialogue was taken straight from the film, and the songs were mostly expansions of bits from the movie. All of them were in the same vein as "The Inquisition" from History of the World Part 1. Full of typical Mel Brooks humor.

Since the film didn't have many sets it translated easily to stage. It also progressed quickly - two acts plus intermission went just under 2.5 hours, so it wasn't that much longer than the film. A few scenes were changed to improve the flow of the play.

Highly recommended if you're a fan of old school Mel Brooks humor. You get the marriage points of taking your wife to a musical, but it's Mel Brooks so you aren't bored out of your skull.
I don't have a lot of experience with vampires, but I have hunted werewolves. I shot one once, but by the time I got to it, it had turned back into my neighbor's dog.

Agreed.

We caught it a few months back and thought it was much better than Spamalot.

The chick that played Inga in Young Frankenstein was no slouch.
