Fitness Factory customer service issue #1.

Post by Lich »

On March 11, I made an inquiry to FF about their OL bars. Specifically I wanted to know if they had center knurling, among other questions.
Regarding the 500 lb Olympic weight sets (product number OSB500);

What is the rating on the bar, and is it black as advertised in the
picture? Also it does have knurling in the center as well, correct?

What is the breakdown of plate sizes on a 500 lb set?

Also, I'm curious why the shorter OL bars (the 5 and 6 ft sizes) are
more expensive then a standard 7 ft bar?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks.
I recieved the following reply shortly thereafter.
Our 500lb set does come with the black bar. The bar has a 1000lb
capacity. It should have center knurling, but I can't guarantee it 100%.
The plate assortment is 6-45's, 2-35's, 2-25's, 4-10's, 4-5's, 2-2.5's.
As far as the bar prices, we buy 7 foot bars in such huge quantities,
that we actually pay less for them than the shorter bars. We pass that
savings on to our customers.
Seemingly good knowledge, but must follow up on the knurling issue. Still haven't heard anything though. How hard can it be to find that out? I'm getting tired of the "one answer wonder" bullshit going on lately. If you send a company an email, they will answer you initially, but if you have follow-up questions, and write them again, you don't hear shit back.

I replied
I like the price on your sets. The only thing I need to know for sure
is about that knurling in the center of the bar. I need to be sure
those black bars are knurled in the center for things like the PTP
Side Press and Squats (helps keep the bar in place).

If you can let me know that, then you can count on my ordering that
set in the couple months shortly before my return later this year.
So FF, I like your prices, but in this age of telephones and email, if I don't have an answer by Friday at midnight my time, then I'm going to order the two 300# sets from NY Barbell even though it's a more expensive option. The question is not that fucking complicated.

Take a look at NY Barbells

They have a 300lb set for $129, add'l plates are $.45 per lb., so you can get a 500 lb. set for $219. The bar is properly knurled, however it only comes with a chrome finish.

True knowledge.

Armoit2,

Yeah, tape is a practical alternative. But first, when I'm buying my shit, it should be the way I want it without having to make jury-rigged adjustments. And second, it's the principle of the matter that the question is not that fucking complex, and therefor should not take a weeks worth of research in this day and age.

Aren't they out near Chicago.....That might be the problem right there.

Sometimes, especially on bargain bars, the center knurling isnt' QUITE in the center.

The best way is to balance the bar on something and etch or score a small mark into it on the point where it balances.

service economy

Post by cmedwin »

There's this (now 20 year old) science fiction novel, "Snowcrash" by
Neal Stephenson (great book); It prophesized that Americans would
excel in franchising, entertainment and hi-tech pizza delivery.

Today, we find the entire structure of the US economy tending to have
something manufactured, packaged and barcoded in China in a way that
requires absolutely zero intervention by anyone except the UPS guy
(pretty close to the pizza guy, no?).

The retailers don't know the products because the system discourages
opening the box- it creates confusion, raises customers expectations
and raises costs.
Welcome to the future...

Yep, only he/she gets paid a lot more than your average aged pimply face delivery dude or dudette.

The newest dumbass reply from Fitness Factory:
Mitchell,

95 out of 100 times, the bar will have the center knurling. But every
now and then we have to buy the sets from a secondary vendor and the
bars may not have center knurling. So I can't guarantee 100% that the
bar will knurled in the center.
Gee, so what you're saying is, you can't tell me what I'm buying for sure. That pisses me off. But thanks for the brush-off-shrug-shoulder-thumb-up-your-ass answer, which incidentally, is a day late, and took too long in the first place.

I called NY Barbell, and the guy (I think the boss?), Darwin, was more than happy to talk to me and had tons of product knowledge down to the details. Was even willing to customize my package and arrange special payment options given my situation, wire transfer and whatnot.

Fitness Factory, please go fuck yourself. I'll be dealing with people who know their shit and have time to talk to customers, like NYBB.

If you'd called, you would have gotten your answer right away. Most email addresses into companies are not staffed with instant turnaround personnel. In point of fact, what you are buying when you use a company like this is the cheapest stuff available. They in turn buy from various sources, including closeouts, factory overruns, etc. When you buy from this type of source, you get a generic OLY bar, not a specific bar with specific features. Pony up the $$ to go elsewhere and quit whining.

BTW, if you think anybody in the world knows what any of the dinglberry exercises in any DD book are, you are sorely mistaken. Not one in ten thousand customers want to do a bent press with a barbell or any of the other faggotized elitist exercises that simply serve to shield one from comparison with actually strong people.

True enough. But a reply via email should not take a week, at least not from a business who's main advertising window is online or via catalogs that advertise the website. The entire concept of email is increased speed, convenience, and for me not sitting on an international call. At least one would assume that's the reason you hear advertisements for the "web site" while your on hold in automation hell, pressing '1' for questions about black bars, and '2' for questions about chrome plated bars, etc.

Already taken care of, as mentioned in the previous post, by NYBB.

The side press was not the only exercise I mentioned as reason for wanting knurling. In any case, I thought the question was innocent enough. I did overlook what you said about how they deal in multiple vendors, factory closeouts, etc, but I don't think there is any harm in doing some asking to possibly save money.

Or you could have listened to me in the first place and gone directly to NYBB. Only a fucking pissant petulant dickless crybaby does otherwise, and only faggots do side press in the first place. Next time, spit out the man leavings, allow some non-intrusion time for your rectum to heal up, and wipe that hardening film of slime off your chin before you snivel in public. It wouldn't surprise me one bit to find a little touch of the tar brush in your background, Satchmo.

For what's worth,

I have a 7' chrome Ol bar from FF and it does have the knurling in the middle.

I'm not interested in a tennis match. Question was asked, the complaint is about the brush off service I got, and in the end I did end up going to NYBB. Laut your logic, side-pressing and not listening to you is indicative of homosexuality. It's understood. Best advice ever. Let that be a valuable lesson to everyone here.
