I'm 28. I have a full time job leading urban kids (of all races) on nature hikes. I simply write down shit they say.

“Mr. Cody, hook me up wit a glue stick… I’mma cut and paste this fuckin’ orange leaf into my memories book.”
“Quinton’s fat ass waaaay back there. Homie can’t keep his pants up. Tryna borrow a belt, I’m like nobody here wear size equator!"

On a slightly more somber note (but still interesting):

It's easy to look at photos like these and dismiss the whole place as a lost cause, another bombed out city. But I think these photos are really cool looking. They're well composed, which always helps, but in a weird way they're like extremely long exposures: underneath the graffiti or grime or decay, you can see the hints of the city that used to live there. You can see that parts of the city are still standing, almost defiantly. And I think that's really neat.

I can't see what the photographer is getting at with these pics. Looks like an upmarket suburb of Liverpool.

LOL, that's just what I was thinking! From the descriptions I'd heard of ESL on here and elsewhere I had much lower expectations. Some of those properties look like viable buy-to-let propositions for university tenants living not too far away from where I am now.....

Sure...I think the point is that ESL is not a complete shit-hole yet. There are some hold outs, some spots that look as though the neighborhoods haven't completely given up (especially the churches and businesses). Some of those houses look...liveable. OTOH,some of the private residences make me think I'd move to Montana first and sleep in a 100 year old barn rather than there.
And it's kind of sobering that even one of the local police precincts looks like this:
