free speech in academia under attack--igxers unite!
A Kansas professor was put on administrative leave Friday after a tweet he sent earlier in the week that blamed the Navy Yard shooting on the National Rifle Assn.

Announcing her decision to put University of Kansas journalism professor David Guth on indefinite leave, Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little said in a statement that she sought “to prevent disruptions to the learning environment for students.” . . .

Guth . . .wrote on Twitter that “the blood is . the hands of the #NRA. Next time, let it be YOUR sons and daughters. Shame on you. May God damn you,”

The president of the Kansas State Rifle Assn., Patricia Stoneking, called Guth’s tweet “outrageous” and called for the university to fire him. . . .

Guth, who has taught journalism at the university since 1991, “Free speech is for everyone.”

He's a tenured professor. He gets a mini vaca and back to normal next month.
And it seems there are a lot of people to blame, not just the NRA.

A journalism professor should know better than anyone about the consequences (positive and negative) of free speech.

Even worse, his academic focus is PR: http://www.amazon.com/David-Guth/e/B001IQWA4O

And tom is right unfortunately. Not many fields where you can embarrass your employer in your professional capacity and keep your job.

It being a military base, the shooter probably shot at least one NRA member.

On a mass shooting coincident trip, I have...

-spent a ton of time in the NAVSEA bldg
- was just visiting my friend who lives across the street from Columbine High while,
- staying in a hotel near the movie theatre mass shooting site
- I visited the Westside Mall quite a few times while in Nairobi. Probably a few Americans involved
- Was recently contemplating how the Penn State sniper incident in 1996 would have played out if the shooter had had a 30 round magazine instead of a 5 round clip. That was an exciting day at work. Shooter was also a nut.
