It's true that you can indeed adorn you body however you'd like. It's 100% true. And it's also true that you can go on a petulant tirade about being refused a tattoo that you "really, really want right this instant, before I go drink my Bloody Marys," and get it published on Jezebel (the colorectal cancer of the Internet), wherein you slam the mean, old, Patriarchal Tattoo Man for refusing to ink your daughter's name on your neck.
What you fail to realize, though, is that the world you live in, wherein you're the center of a Universe that revolves around you and undulates at your every whim and command, occasionally collides with the worlds that other people live in- in this case a world where the rules that govern a certain old-school Tattoo Culture are strictly abided by.
A good tattoo artist will refuse to ink something that he deems to be ill-advised, or stupid, on you. Why? Well, sometimes because he doesn't want to have a hand in doing something that you might regret later on, and other times because he doesn't want his name and reputation marred by a stupid-ass tattoo that you insisted on having him drill permanently into your skin, for you. It really doesn't matter, because he has the right to refuse service to anybody he wishes, for any of a myriad of different reasons he chooses, and in your case sweetheart, he was conducting himself honorably by not wanting to take something as precious as your daughter's name, and making it into something tacky. And that tattoo *is* tacky.
Were you going for the "Soccer Mom Lil' Wayne" aesthetic?
