This woman clearly had a responsibility to treat these boys better than she did.

I do not see that there was an abuse of authority unless one defines that as definitional and I am against that. I see a difference between this scenario and one in which the one in authority says fuck me or you are failing or I will screw your chances of going to college or playing in the state tournament etc...

I say fire her and no more positions of responsibility with minors and not jail time.

She didn't extort them, but how could you argue she didn't abuse her position of authority? Sure, the kids might have enjoyed it and maybe they're aren't scarred by the experience, but it's still despicable.

I distinguish between breach of responsibility/duty and abuse of authority. I think the first, while bad, is not as bad as the second. Both should be punished but not identically or equally. I think it is enough to take her permanently out of positions of authority re: minors. As you say, there is no indication she extorted sex from them on the basis of her position.

I think the elision of the two was done in the '90's to expose more males to more serious penalties for their sexual actions. The cultural far Left and the cultural far Right joined forces because their goal was the same: repression of the male sexual impulse and perpetuation of the (white) female as societies treasure.

I think it is clear that the educational system can not work if the possibility of sexual relations between teacher and pupil is allowed. I don't think that means all sex between teachers and pupils is abuse of "authority".

Not the point at all. If a teacher, male or female, is using his/her job as an opportunity to scout tail, that's an abuse of authority. Clearly 17 is not the same as 12, and a teacher isn't a babysitter, but it's not so different.

Again I say, what is the big deal over this? I fucked my teacher all though high school and it was no big deal. I am totally fucking normal with zero issues.

I tend to agree with this.

Growing up you would hear stories of this kind of thing happening. Perhaps I didn't actually 'hear' them as much as imagined hearing them but that's close enough.

I did know of a girl who married her teacher a few months after she turned 18 and finished school. Nothing was every said and they've been together since and have a ton of kids together - both working in education I believe.
