Have an opportunity to go live and work abroad for a while and am thinking "Asia" is where I'd like to go. I've wanted to uproot for a while and get the fuck out of California. I've worked and saved, and want to spend some time abroad before I knock up some broad and start drinking, smoking and building my stable on my path to being Andy35.

I've been to Japan and really like it, but assuming you're being paid in dollars, it's probably not ideal.

I know several people who have done the Thailand/Vietnam/Cambodia thing over a few weeks and really enjoyed it. Lot of remote tech guys in their 20's freelance from Phuket or wherever for a few months.

It's not what you're asking for, but Buenos Aires is a pretty solid choice for a remote workplace if you're working with USTZ companies. The exchange rate is completely insane at the moment.

I like Myanmar. The ethinc Buddhists there are doing their part to make sure that their country doesn't fall to Islam like what happened in Indonesia, by any means necessary including burning mosques.

I think that you would really enjoy the Philippines. Pakistan would probably be nice as well.

I've only been to Singapore, but it is modern as hell and the food rocks. Mix of Chinese, Thai, Malay, cuisine.

My favorite Asian country is San Francisco so I can't help you much.

Everytime I think "Asia," I think of Indiana Jones.

Singapore... Cost of living?

Have two friends that went to Shanghai to teach for a year. One stayed and is still there. The other came back kind of shell shocked. From what I am tell, cost of living and things to do seems cool in Shanghai though.

Best thing for you to do, Baff is just stay where you are in gook town USA and fuck yourself.

Thailand

Depends on how you want to live? Big city, beach or somewhere in between. Thailand offers all three tho.

Shanghai is very interesting. Last there in 2002. But, we had a house, a driver and servants, so hard to know what actually living there would be like.

Been to Japan a few times. Liked it. Very expensive. Took the bullet train to Kyoto, nice place. Tokyo was great, but again, I had a house and friends to take me around.

Korea, only been there once. People were very friendly, prices reasonable.

Viet Nam, spent a year there, not my favorite spot.

Korea = Queens NY
Hong Kong = Manhattan but shorter people

Why do you think you want to go to Asia? Without knowing that, none of the answers here amount to more than "I went to country X once and liked it."

That said, I went to Tokyo once and liked it there. It's an interesting, but odd place.

Are you asking why Asia and not somewhere else?

If so, I guess it has to do with personal interest in the region, the potential to make the same money I do here but with a seriously lower cost of living, and figuring I have more freedom and money now than ever before. May as well take advantage of it.

Forget Singapore , Japan and Hong Kong. You are not saving any money there. Go to india and live on the street

In and out of Japan for the past few months, I don't know what line of work are you into or what your current living conditions are but Japan is not a cheaper country especially if you are accustomed to eating vegetables and fruits. There are places that are like Walmart but sell fruits on a premium like a five dollar banana.

Culture wise is a very beautiful country, very diverse, has tons of outdoor activities to do and it is conveniently located almost in the middle of everything. In the past few months I have been to Australia, China, and a few other places sorely on my own budget and by utilizing excellent opportunities in cheap airfare.

The Maori are Asian-ish, so I'd choose New Zealand.
