Holy fuck, is this grim and depressing.
Unlike most of the reviews I read, I didn't really see any condemnation of US military power or any sort of "Iraq metaphor." The stuff the military is doing in this film seems pretty reasonable in light of the stakes. So you hawks can watch without getting pissed off.
OTOH, here's a synopsis:
"Oh, that's an interesting character. I wonder wh- oh shit."
"Hm, I know that actor. Pretty good. Going to be a pivotal char- oh shit."
"Gee, this character has quite the inner conflict going on. I hope tha- oh shit."
You get the idea. No one is safe, and for this reason I found it to create a realistic feeling of dread.
Not a date film; some of the violence is extremely graphic and disturbing.
