Very atmospheric, creepy vampire film from Sweden. A bullied 12-year-old boy takes a shine to a very odd girl who moves in next door. She's twelve too, but "has been twelve for a very long time."

The two child actors are amazing, subdued and natural, and they make it worth watching even though it will probably be "slow" for most viewers.

If you insist on a beheading every 5 minutes, this is not for you. Various people buy the farm, but only at intervals, and usually it's not too graphic. Well, sometimes it is.

(Does everyone in Sweden drink and smoke 24/7?)

I read a great review on this in the London Times or Telegraph a few days ago. Apparently a Hollywood version is in the works.

According to the writeup, in the novel the vampire was a boy who was castrated by the v who turned him. In the film it's ambiguous.

Just caught this over the weekend. It was an absolutely wonderful film and I agree with the Dawg that Hollywood is gonna fuck it up most likely. I'm going to get the book.

Never seen the film, but the book is good, well written and interesting throughout.
