Pretty crazy story. A totalitarian Japan in some alternate reality each year selects one jr. high classroom to be put on an island and the students must fight each other to the death. This novel is about one of the classes.

I came into this having no idea what it was about, somebody gave it to me after reading it and saing it "remind them of" me. WTF. "Oh, kids on the school bus. Oh, they have to fight to the death. The fuck is going on here."

The translation can be very awkward at times, but it's not high literature so NBD for pulp fiction. Supposedly it's since been updated, but I don't know.

Entertaining, was turned into a movie in 2000 which I may Netflix.

Read this a handful of years ago. I didn't hate it but I had some issues identifying with some of the Eastern concepts and philosophies.

Cool. I'll check it out. And to clarify my earlier statement I fucking hate the Japanese concept of honor and the faggot ass mysticism westerners foist upon eastern martial arts.

The manga is the best version of Battle Royale available.

But don't miss the movie, it's a really great un-PC show. (Mitsuko was fucking hot.)
